I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: June 25-26

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

SATURDAY:

  • "Always Lost: A Meditation on War” in the Western Nevada College Main Gallery in the Bristlecone Building (7am-8pm)
  • Muscle Powered One Hour Trash Mob: Blue Canyon Mill in the Carson River Canyon - Meet at the dirt parking lot on the east side of Deer Run Rd where it crosses the Carson River for carpooling to site approx. 1 mile down gravel road (8am-9am; Gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers will be provided; please dress for the weather)

Hungry? Dayton’s Annual Oodles of Noodles Festival is this weekend, but Saturday is the only day to get your fill and vote for your favorite. The Farmers Market at Third and Curry is the best place to find fresh produce for your weekend picnic. Head to CAL Ranch and buy a hot dog to help support the Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program.

Carson City is a Bee City USA affiliate, the first in the state of Nevada. Bee Cities are a part of The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will hold a "Sheep Talk" this Monday, April 29 from noon to 1 p.m. so residents can learn from Carson City staff about the popular fuel reduction program used annually with the use of "firefighting" sheep.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

For many students at Carson High, Monica Weaver serves as a counselor who is dedicated to helping students navigate the challenges that could alter one’s four years of high school. But in the spring, Weaver also stands poolside, coaching the Senators swim team.

Meet Ricky and Reba, a sweet bonded pair who are waiting for their forever home. Sometimes bad things happen to good cats. Nobody knows this better than Ricky and Reba. Douglas County officials have announced that construction will begin soon on the first phase of the Muller Parkway Project.
