Feeling blue during the Holidays? You are not alone. The First United Methodist Church in Carson City welcomes all community members to a Blue Christmas service, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.

Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Work has begun on building the Living Nativity in Carson City. It is the 20th year that the street of Musser and Division has been transformed into Jesus’ birthplace in Bethlehem.

It was a year of uncertainty. A year when we felt a need for something more. A need for peace. It was a year that felt similar to 2020. It was 2001.

The year that we watched the airplanes crash into the Twin Towers. The year we felt hopeless and confused and a desire to connect with people and with God. Seeing that need, the Carson City First United Methodist Church began what has become one of the most cherished Christmas traditions in Carson City.

A network of churches, community members and local non-profits have been teaming up for half a decade in Carson City to provide warming shelters and a safe place to sleep for the transient population, and this year will continue despite COVID-19.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. On Saturday, 10 children from low-income Carson City families will receive back-to-school makeovers as part of the "Cool School Renewal" event put on by Capital City CIRCLES Initiative.

In addition to their new outfits, C.I.R.C.L.E.S. participants’ children will receive new fun, rad haircuts from The Cutting Edge hair salon. Their new looks will then be showcased in a big makeover reveal for all to see at!

CARSON CITY — Carson High School will host a Division 1 Signing Ceremony for two student athletes in the gym at 11 a.m. this Friday, January 25. Jill Beglin will be signing with St. Johns University for Golf and Abby Pradere will sign with the University of San Francisco for Track.

The Christmas spirit is very present around Carson City these days with just over two weeks remaining before the big day.

The First United Methodist Church of Carson City will be re-enacting the story of Christmas with their annual drive through Living Nativity on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8-9.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Monday, Nov. 5, 2018. The beginning of the work week promises sunny skies and seasonable temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. With the time change now in full swing and the sun rising earlier, it's always good practice to keep your windshield clean and clear and to be mindful of those intersections, streets, crosswalks and sidewalks where the rising sun shines especially bright.

The Capital City Community Band has a free concert and ice cream social scheduled for this afternoon at the First United Methodist Church. All are welcome, and it’s hard to argue with ice cream on a day like this. If you are looking to start your own business, but still some legal guidance, you’ll find the ‘Lunch-n-Learn’ workshop at the Adams Hub extremely helpful.

The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, through the Nevada Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation grant program, has awarded $950,000 to 15 historic and cultural preservation projects throughout Nevada, including the Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City.
