Empty Bowls

An annual event that brings together Carson City restaurants and the community to share delicious food and raise money and awareness of local hunger and food insecurity, Empty Bowls Carson City returns Dec. 1, 2023 at the Carson Mall.

Help fight hunger in our community and join us at the 9th Annual Empty Bowls event in Carson City.

This is the same night as the Capital tree lighting. So, come on over before or afterward with the entire family, receive a hand-crafted ceramic bowl, and enjoy soups from various local participating restaurants.

Every other Tuesday night, Ogres-Holm Pottery opens its studio to anyone who wants to help us create ceramic bowls that will be donated to Carson City's Empty Bowls Event. It's free! No Experience is needed. We will teach you how to create and decorate the Empty Bowls.

Help fight local food insecurity, one bowl at a time. Learn the art of pottery making at this free July 5 event at Ogres-Holm Pottery in the Carson Mall. With your help, we will have beautiful bowls at the end of the year to help end hunger in our community by breaking bread together and sharing a meal with the bowls we create.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

2019 Carson City’s Empty Bowls event was a success! This event would have never been possible without our local restaurants’ donations of several gallons of soup. This year was our first year awarding the best, most popular soup served. It was a very difficult decision to make as all of the soups were phenomenal, but here are our top three winners!

Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its Photo Finished 2020 exhibition at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 East Proctor Street in Carson City.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. The spirit of the Christmas season was alive in the streets of downtown Carson City on Friday and Saturday nights. The first three photos are of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration and were taken by Lynn McCarthy. The final set of photos, taken by Cathleen Allison of Nevada Momentum, are of Saturday night's Holiday Crawl, in support of the Holiday with a Hero campaign. The final photo from FISH is at the Project Empty Bowls event held Saturday at the Carson Mall.

The annual Empty Bowls fundraising night is underway and will continue throughout Saturday night.

Empty Bowls is an “international grassroots effort” to fight hunger around the world.

In our local community, volunteers work throughout the year to create handcrafted bowls. Each year, hundreds of bowls are crafted in Carson City for the purpose of the fundraiser.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Celebrating the holidays around Carson City is a magic and glorious time, where the community comes together to celebrate and to give through several charity functions. Many in the community are grateful to have a roof over their head and food to eat without much of a struggle. But unfortunately for many families and individuals, having regular meals doesn't come easy.

Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup.
