Sophisticats Exotic Cat Show and Animal Rescue Expo
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 09/20/2023 - 3:19pmCat and kitten lovers, have you ever met a Maine Coon, spied a Sphynx, consulted a Cymric or beheld a Bengal? These are some of the exotic breeds competing in an internationally sanctioned cat show in Reno, September 30 - October 1.
Both purebred and non-pedigreed cats compete – maybe YOUR kitty can be a show cat. Local rescues and animal care groups, including Options Veterinary Care, Community Cats, Cat Chalet and Feral At Heart, will be there with information and adoptable felines. A raffle, vendors, book signings with renowned author and animal advocate Peggy Rew are part of the fun.

Greg Hall, CEO of the Nevada Humane Society, which has a presence in Reno and Carson City, organized a late-night emergency call with staff. They discussed how to operate amid the threat of COVID-19, a potentially lethal virus that carried so many unknowns. Meanwhile, seven hours south, staff at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas braced for the worst.

The ground is moist again, so more good news. I got the tools, hoses, sprinklers and patio furniture put away before the storms. We turned off and drained the main sprinklers in time. So far so good.
