The Colorado Street roadway and sidewalk infrastructure, between S. Carson Street and Saliman Road, is in poor condition. The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission has allocated funding to make improvements. Please participate in a needs assessment survey to help prioritize future improvements.

With the new year, a new set of laws is once again taking effect.

Of the hundreds of bills the Legislature passed in 2019, nine finally became effective either in whole or in part on Friday with the start of the new year and as the next legislative session is set to begin in February.

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, have been designated “White Cane Days” by the Carson City Host Lions Club.

Lions will be available at the North Carson Street Save Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days.

Volunteer citizen scientists working with the League to Save Lake Tahoe conducted surveys of Donner and Spooner Lakes to detect aquatic invasive species, and restored native wetland habitat in Johnson Meadow in September. Both efforts are aimed at preserving the Tahoe-Truckee region’s unique ecology.

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City has been around since 1976, and it was the hope of then arts activist Betty Block (Brogan) and other artists who needed a special and permanent space to showcase their diverse talents that the BAC would serve as the very heart of the local arts community bringing the arts under one roof.

Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, the BAC will place musicians and bands on the flatbed and drive them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City throughout June and July and August.

In celebration of Historic Preservation and Archaeological Awareness month, the City’s Historic Resource Commission organized the 11th Annual Scavenger Hunt.

This year’s hunt focused on fences and gates in the Historic District of Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will take place Thursday May 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

Tahoe Hemp is suing Carson City for $15 million after the city refused to allow the company to grow hemp on the Buzzy’s Ranch property, despite an agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust.
