Night Off The Streets program in Carson City highlights Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting
Jodi Miller, Executive Director of the Night Off The Streets (NOTS) organization in Carson City, will join the Leisure Hour Club for their dinner meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14. She will discuss what NOTS does on a daily basis, how they help not only the unsheltered but the community as well, and the goals of the organization.
In 2016, four people froze to death on the streets of Carson City. In response to this tragedy, a number of local churches banded together to form a solution: that none may die for simply being without a home. Out of this effort came the NOTS group.
Founded in 2017, this not-for-profit has a goal of providing temporary over-night beds during the winter months for the unsheltered. In the last few years, NOTS has grown into an organization that strives to help those in need better their lives.
The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. The organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of "Let knowledge grow from more to more" comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.
Reservations are required on or before Thursday, Nov. 7 for the meeting and dinner and can be made by calling 775.302.8820 or by email to lhcreservations@gmail.com.
