Carson City School District closes schools Wednesday for winter storm, WNC campuses also closed

The National Weather Service is predicting one of the most impactful winter storms in recent years to hit our area. Periods of heavy snow and strong winds are expected tonight. The storm threatens to be disruptive to travel throughout the region.

NHP reports fatal vehicle crash Sunday morning on US 95A in Silver Springs

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal vehicle crash in Lyon County that happened late Sunday morning on US 95A and Quince Avenue in Silver Springs.

Juan’s Mexican Grill to open Monday in Downtown Carson City

Owners Juan and Maria Salazar have been running the first location of Juan’s Mexican Grill for years inside the Comstock Casino and this new location, which took over the venue left vacant by Battle Born Social, will be their second.
This is not their first time serving up Mexican cuisine in the downtown area. Juan’s used to operate both inside the old Mo and Sluggo’s (now the Pourhouse) as well as the Horseshoe Club (now closed).
Update: Car drives into Sportman's Warehouse, five injured, two evacuated by Care Flight
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 01/15/2021 - 12:06pmUPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Law enforcement has cleared the scene and the vehicle was towed. According to Furlong the driver of the vehicle was a man in his 50s. They are currently not regarding the collision as suspicious. It is being investigated by the traffic unit as well as by Nevada Highway Patrol. The driver is suspected to have driven through the cement pylons and through the front doors of the store, and continued through the store striking four people until the vehicle came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle along with four individuals struck inside the store were taken to the hospital.
UPDATE 2:06 p.m.: They are preparing to remove the vehicle from the building.
UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: Stewart is reopened.
UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong they believe the driver of a vehicle traveling West on Wright Street experienced a medical emergency, causing them to continue through Stewart Street and directly into the doors of Sportsman’s Warehouse. The vehicle struck five people as it drove through the store.
UPDATE 11:43 a.m.: Both Care Flight helicopters have taken off and are heading to the hospital.
UPDATE 11:36 a.m.: Both helicopters have landed. Stewart Street is blocked.
UPDATE 11:08 a.m.: A second helicopter was ordered to the scene.
Streets will be closed down near the scene including at the roundabout for the helicopter to land.

Multiple injuries were reported at the scene of a traffic accident on Friday which occurred just after 11 a.m.

Gavin Newsom’s Stay-at-Home Orders. These Regional Orders will be in effect through Jan. 29, 2021.

Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area remains closed to motorized activities due to lack of snow

Snow levels must meet the minimum requirement in order to open the area.

In charge of Ski Incline in the early days, Cappy Cook was a hail-fellow-well-met, on and off the slopes. He played in the Rose Bowl for Stanford in '52, ran a packing outfit in Yosemite, coached our Junior National Ski Team, and his handshake would leave me crippled for days, so of course I never ventured to give him a hug.
Douglas County sheriff's officer shot, flown by Care Flight; 2 suspects in custody
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/21/2020 - 12:48amUPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: On Dec. 20, 2020 at approximately 11:15 p.m. an officer Involved shooting occurred in Douglas County NV near Douglas Ave in Gardnerville, NV.
The incident is currently under investigations and no suspects are outstanding. The Suspect is currently being treated at the hospital for injuries. Highway 395/Gillman to Waterloo remain closed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please avoid the area. More information will be released when it becomes available.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigation agency, as protocol for officer involved shootings to have an outside agency investigate, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. There are two suspects who were in a vehicle, a male and female, who were involved in the incident. Both are in custody, said Furlong. The condition of the injured officer is unknown at this time.

A Douglas County sheriff's officer was shot and suffered serious injuries late Sunday night following an incident in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody, according to dispatch reports.

Carson City arrest report: Man booked for felony warrants alleging domestic battery

Carson City Library continues to serve community while making improvements and upgrades
