While our name may imply we only work with children, nothing could be further from the truth. For the past 5 years, Kids & Horses has partnered with Connected Horse to offer powerful workshops to individuals with memory loss and their care partners.

In this month’s free Retired Living Truth Series seminar, attendees will literally get a chance to “pick the brains” of experts in aging, neuroscience, and memory care as they share the in’s and out’s of diagnosing, managing, and living with brain disease.

If you or someone you know is facing Alzheimer’s, dementia or another chronic illness, it’s never too early to put financial plans in place. The Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Nevada will present a free, in-person class on Managing Money: A Caregiver’s Guide to Finances.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. A no-cost virtual education program presented by the Alzheimer's Association will be on April 22 at 10 a.m.. In this session, we will review the landscape of Alzheimer’s and dementia science, illustrate the highlights in early detection and diagnosis and explain some of the latest advances in clinical trials, treatment and lifestyle interventions, including things we can all do today to decrease our risk of developing dementia.

Heading into Tuesday, activities around the capital city area include a meeting of the Carson City School Board, a gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a free presentation in Gardnerville that focuses on understanding Alzheimer's and dementia, plus a showing of the documentary about social media, "Like" in Reno, art exhibitions, and more.

Skip the line on the official walk day and instead sign up Tuesday at an early bird registration gathering for the 2019 Northern Nevada Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 21.

The early registration and gathering will take Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 639 Isbell Road, Suite 240 in Reno.

A prelude to the main event. Sunday July 21st from 9:00am to 3:00pm the Friends of Coach Blaver Memorial Alzheimer's Chapter will be hosting a rummage sale fundraiser for a great cause. Located inside the Carson Mall come visit the people who hold it all together. All the proceeds stay local to help fight a affliction that effects our local citizens.

The Senior Celebration held Thursday at the Casino Fandango Ballroom in Carson City went off without a hitch with festivities including raffles, a cake walk, live entertainment, medical screenings and more.

Good morning Carson City. It is Thursday, April 4, 2019. As matters at the legislature continue, we are winding up for another weekend full of activities, including the downtown wine walk and a bevy of shows at the Brewery Arts Center. We may see some showers today, Friday and early Saturday, typical for the early days of spring. Stay tuned.

Carol Beeson Cronenberger: November 7, 1937 to March 14, 2019. Born to Harold and Evelyn Beeson in Oroville, Calif., Carol spent her childhood in the hard scrabble lumber camp of Grays Flat in the Feather River Canyon and later in Marysville, where Harold continued his life’s work as a sawmill planer. The Beesons moved to Reno in 1951, where Carol graduated from Reno High School in 1955 and the University of Nevada, Reno in 1959.
