Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Heading into the first of the work week, there's some uncertainty due to concerns over the coronavirus. Some activities will go on as scheduled while others may be canceled. We're advising you check with event organizers ahead of time before you plan on attending.

Heading into the middle of the work work, activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, conversational Spanish classes at Partnership Carson City, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, a presentation of "Valiant Women of The Vote" Mix and Mingle honoring the 19th Amendment at the Governor's Mansion, Ladies Night at Bella Vita Bistro, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and much more. The Sierra Inline Hockey League will be hosting three free inline hockey clinics for active kids beginning Monday March 9, and the next two Mondays on the 16 and 23.

Session times run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., for ages 6 - 9 years old.

The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the last day of spring. Today is Thursday, June 20, 2019. Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. Events, activities and more are lined up today including the first day of the three-day police officer motorcycle challenge at Mills Park, morning walks, Cruise Night at Empire Ranch Golf Course and live music outdoors at Living the Good Life.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office 16th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge returns this week, Thursday through Saturday, June 20-22 at Mills Park.

CARSON CITY — For the first time, Western Nevada College’s Jump Start graduating class has topped triple digits. WNC’s Jump Start graduation class includes 150 students, representing 12 high schools and two academies.

The 2019 Western Nevada College graduating class will be celebrated in a commencement ceremony Monday at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City. The ceremony will feature the Nevada governor and attorney general as guest speakers.

How about a high temperature of 74 degrees in the Nevada state capital on the first Sunday of November? That's according to the National Weather Service in Reno, and it ought to be motivation enough to get outside, soak up the warm weather and enjoy all that the Carson City area has to offer.

During the month of August, join a Carson City park ranger to learn about a variety of nature topics related to the outdoors in the area.

What a day. The Concert Under the Stars brings Jefferson Starship to the outdoor stage at the Brewery Arts Show. Get there early to peruse the silent auction items and food vendors; the annual fundraising benefit for the Greenhouse Project is always the talk of the town. The Greatest Showman on Earth makes an appearance at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch: it’s Chautauqua night, and Doug Mishler will be portraying “Circus Showman P. T. Barnum.” The Stewart Indian School in east Carson City has history reaching into the early days of our state.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation will present Community Service Awards for year 2018 recipients in a brief ceremony on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.

With a thunderous roar Saturday night at Marv Teixeira Pavilion next to Mills Park, hot rods revved their engines in unison for Cacklefest, a tribute to members of the Rockabilly Riot that have passed away over the last decade.

It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

CARSON CITY — Since Rockabilly Riot started in 2010, Lindsey Harrison has attended each show, particularly the pin-up contest. “I’ve watched it every year, but I was never confident enough to try it,” she said.

Last year, however, fresh off a divorce and ready to dive into new things, Harrison submitted her photos for consideration for the Miss Rockabilly Riot pin-up contest.
