Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. Lace up your shoes for a morning walk at Riverview Park, and then head on over to the Nevada State Museum for a coin press demonstration, and tours that explore anthropology and Nevada history. Later there's a cruise night gathering at Carson Mall to benefit Safe Grad Night, an Italian dinner fundraiser at the Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless, live music at Living the Good Life and A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, and much more. Friday, May 31

— Coin Press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 600 N. Carson St., Carson City. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum can watch the museum’s historic Coin Press No. 1 carry on a mission it started nearly 150 years ago in the very same building. The "venerable press” that churned out millions of dollars in silver and gold coins during stints at U.S. Mints in Carson City, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver between 1870 and 1964. The press demonstrations will take place the last Friday of the month with two-person teams of volunteers not only working the press but sharing its history with museum visitors. The demonstrations will be held 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

— 18th annual Oodles of Noodles comes to Dayton. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at downtown Dayton, NV. Come and bring the family for the 18th Annual Oodles of Noodles Festival and Pasta Cookoff, Saturday, June 1, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in historic downtown Dayton. — Friday Morning Walk at Riverview Park hosted by Muscle Powered. 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at 600 Marsh Rd. in Carson City. Come and join us for our weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at the Korean Memorial parking area at the east end of 5th Street, 600 Marsh Road. Dirt trail. Water and closed-toe required.All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. — Behind the Scenes Tours in Natural History at the Nevada State Museum. 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St., Carson City. Tour conducted by George Baumgardner, PhD, featuring Plants and Animals of Nevada. Tours typically take about an hour and begin at 10:00 and 1:30. — Experience Virtual Reality at the Carson City Library. 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St., Carson City. Join us to experience Virtual Reality! Using the latest technology, Virtual Reality allows you to experience new places and situations in a computer simulated world. Discover what it’s like to see dinosaurs up close, view art from around the world in a single museum, or blast alien ships in a virtual world. Must be at least 13 years or old to participate. — Carson High Safe Grad Cruise Night fundraiser at the Carson Mall. 5:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1223 S. Carson St. in Carson City. Carson Mall has chosen Carson High Safe Grad Booster as their charity organization for their monthly Cruise Night at the Carson Mall. Event is held at the Carson Mall on Friday night May 31. Come out with the family and friends, enjoy the classic cars and enter a chance to win some great raffle prizes.

— Italian Feed fundraiser at Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless. 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 606 N. Mountain St. in Carson City. An Italian Feed fundraiser for The Do Drop In day center at 1895 E Long Street and its parent organization, The Rural Center for Independent Living (RCIL), will be held at the Governor's Mansion's Nevada Room from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31. RCIL Executive Director Dee Dee Foremaster describes her budget process as borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, then doing her best to hold things together before the next check arrives. It's a shoestring, all-volunteer operation that, like the people they serve, is perpetually on the brink of the abyss.

— Weekly Open Mic Night at the Zen Den in A to Zen Gift Shop. Open Mic Night is held at A to Zen Gift Shop on the Zen Den Stage. All talents, creative projects welcome. Come practice being on stage. There will be music, comedy, poetry, magic, and more. All ages and skill levels welcome. Open Mic Night happens every Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. A to Zen is located at 1803 N Carson St., Carson City. — Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St., Carson City. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9 p.m.

— For Love of a Comstock Girl musical at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City. The musical goes from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m for the whole family to enjoy! After a hard day, four miners decide they’re going to embrace life and spend the night with the beautiful Julia Bulette. Unfortunately, she has plans to attend an opera that night. All might be lost for the poor men, but Mark Twain has a plan. His “plan” is to have these men compete — whoever can prove to Julia they love opera the best will be her date for the show, and her company for the night. The four miners embark on a hilarious and heartwarming adventure to impress a Comstock Girl!

— Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at 507 N. Carson St., Carson City. Live Comedy every Friday and Saturday night at the Carson Nugget. This weekend the headliner is Bob Zany. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Purchase tickets at the Winner’s Club or online.

— Friday Night! Living the Good Life Night Club Bistro & Lounge. 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. in Carson City. Come celebrate a fun-filled Friday night featuring Michael Furlong and much more entertainment!

— Giant, "Spring Clean" used-book sale at Shelby's Book Shoppe. 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1663 Lucerne St. Suite in Minden, NV. Saturday, June 1

— Brewery Arts Center Clean Up Day in Carson City 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Brewery Arts Center is looking to enlist a few great volunteers to help this Saturday, June 1 clean up and beautify the two block campus as we prepare for the Levitt AMP Carson City free summer concert series presented by The Change Companies which begins on June 22 and Wheeled Food Wednesday which begins on June 19.The last two years we have had thousands of people come to the arts campus each week and because we are a very small staff with a very large campus, we are asking for the help of the community to help us make a safe and inviting place to build community through the arts.

— Capital Odyssey Relay from Carson City to Reno 3 to 4 p.m. This one day Odyssey relay run will join the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay in progress for the last 12 legs of the RTO course. The relay is from Carson City to Reno. Teams of typically 2-6 runners will be running 54 miles in 12 legs.

— Carson City Ghost Walk Tours return for 27th year (all day). The tours are located at the McFadden Plaza on Curry St. adjacent to the Fox BrewPub. For the 27th year, the spookiest historical tour of the capital city is returning this Saturday, June 1 with the Carson City Ghost Walk. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a seasonal historical tour of Carson City’s west side, a walking history lesson with a touch of the supernatural. All tickets are $15 in advance, or $20 at the time of the event.

— Wendell Huffman to speak at Dangberg Home Ranch (all day). Located at 1450 State Route Hwy 88 in Minden, NV. Wendell Huffman of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will be speaking about “Railroading in Carson Valley: The V&T’s Minden Line and the Transcontinental Railroad in Nevada”He will be here on Saturday, June 1st. Please bring your own seating for all events. No dogs at events; legitimate service animals only. The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88, ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital.

— 30th annual Kids Fishing Derby in Gardnerville (all day). The event is located at Lampe Park, 1324 Waterloo Ln. in Gardnerville, NV. This event is a favorite among the kids. You must pre-register. There is a 2 fish maximum for each kid. Tagged fish win prizes. Volunteers are always needed, wanted and appreciated. – Carson City hosts National Trails Day event near Ash Canyon. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ash Canyon Rd. Saturday, June 1 is National Trails Day. Come observe how trails get built, hear about Carson City’s Open Space Program, and learn some natural and cultural history on Carson City’s most recent Open Space acquisition near Ash Canyon.We will be meeting at the Ash Canyon water tanks at 8 a.m. There will be signage directing participants to the parking area. Shuttles will also be available at the end of Ash Canyon Road near Wellington West for those who need transportation to the water tanks.

— Strive for Life fundraiser at Mills Park. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at 1111 E. William St. in Carson City. For more than 30 years, Great Strides – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event – has supported the Foundation’s mission to cure cystic fibrosis (CF) and raise awareness for this rare, genetic, life-shortening disease that makes it difficult to breathe and shortens lives. Great Strides provides a fantastic opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to come together and make a difference in the lives of people with CF.

— Carson City Farmers Market begins this Saturday. 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. in Carson City. The Carson Farmers Market will kick off the 2019 season this Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 3rd and Curry streets. The Farmers Market will run until Saturday, Sept. 28.Enjoy fresh-picked produce, local meats, fresh flowers, artisan baked goods, jams, honey, crafts, live music and Carson City’s smiling faces.

– Spring Vintage Market at Due Sorella. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 202 N. Curry St. in Carson City. Save the day to spend with us and our 35 vendors, who work and source all year to bring you everything you love for your home and garden. This market will feature live music and food as well. — Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. — Rock Crawlers & Brews comes to Fuji Park in Carson City. 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. The second annual Rock Crawlers and Brews fest will be held once again at the Fuji Park fairgrounds in Carson City this Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.This family-friendly event is a rock crawler truck show hosted by Shoe Tree Brewing Company. In addition to beers on tap, vendor booths from local businesses will be joining the festivities to sell their wares and visit with the community.

— Carson City River Float and Tree Wrap at Ambrose Open Space. 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 281-309 N. Deer Run. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites residents in Carson City to come float the Carson River and wrap cottonwoods on Saturday, June 1. Participants should meet at Ambrose Open Space, 281-309 N Deer Run Rd, Carson City. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

— Family Day at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center. 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1477 U.S. Hwy. 395 in Gardnerville, NV. Join us for Family Day, the first Saturday of each month at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center! It is free admission with plenty of fun and carnival rides.

— State Capitol Guided Tours at the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.

— Wine Walk at downtown Carson City. 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 101 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The Downtown Wine Walk is a must not miss! Held the First Saturday of every month from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. For just $15 (ticket price supports the Downtown Business Association) you’ll receive a commemorative wine glass and endless reasons to stroll through Downtown sipping and tasting the afternoon away. Bring your wine walk glass with the Carson City Logo on it and pay only $12. — Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. in Carson City. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 week session or $45 drop ins.

— Junior Ranger Program: Wildlife Walk. The wildlife walk takes place at Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event is for ages 5-13. Register online to save a spot and adventure guide.

— Book signing by Sandie La Nae. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 201 W. King St. in Carson City. Sandie La Nae will be the featured author Saturday, June 1 at Morley's Books located at 201 W. King Street in Carson City.La Nae, author of 19 books, will be featuring her volume written about the historic building that Morley's Books is housed in, "Wells Fargo Office." Other books Sandie will be selling of her historic volumes include Buckland Station, St. Charles Hotel, Genoa Bar, Alpine Hotel in Markleeville, and those from her "WEIRD" series about Carson City, Reno, and Virginia City.

— Crowns and Tiaras Big Hat Tea fundraiser at Governor's Mansion. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. located at 606 Mountain St. in Carson City. The 5th annual Royalty “Crowns and Tiaras” Big Hat High Tea, put on by the Nevada Nurses Foundation, will be held Saturday, June 1 at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.A traditional English Tea will be served, with food, tea, desserts, and entertainment. This event will feature celebrity waiters and helps FISH give a hand up to those in need in our community by providing for the hungry and homeless. Sunday, June 2

— Muscle Powered Weekly Bicycle Ride. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fremont Elementary School in Carson City. Typically, this ride consists of two 10-15 minute loops with varying pace depending on rider level. This is a “no drop” ride so no one will be left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. — Capital City Community Free Spring Concert: British Invasion. 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 395 S. Carson St. Under the direction of Nick Jacques, the Capital City Community Band will perform its annual “FREE Spring Concert” Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 at 3:00pm, at the amphitheater in the Legislative Mall (in front of the Nevada Supreme Court) on Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada.
