We miss the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make theater. Wild Horse Children’s Theater is looking for young actors, singers, and dancers, ages 10 and up for our new Virtual Broadway Workshop.

On December 29th, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) will be hosting a virtual community-based Town Hall to address suicide prevention.

UPDATE: Heading into the Christmas holiday weekend, the weather pattern for the Carson City region is expected to change beginning Christmas Day with periods of rain, snow and gusty winds into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City-based DeBug Computer faced a Christmas challenge. Every year, the company hosts a Photos with Santa event with proceeds going to a local non-profit. The DeBug team huddled with Santa to discuss how to reach the children safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to ask children, with their parents’ consent and supervision, to email a letter to Santa@debugcomputer.net.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Santa and Mrs. Clause, along with the jolly residents of the North Pole, will be putting on a dazzling and safe show this year with a drive-thru Santa's Village at the V&T Railway in Carson City.

Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.

The Dayton Library will be hosting their 3rd annual trunk-or-treat on Wednesday October 28th, 2020 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. This year's event will be a contact-less drive-thru. We are still in need of volunteers to decorate their cars and pass out candy. We are also accepting donations of candy through October 23rd. Gusty winds and low humidity ahead has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning from noon Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for northern and western Nevada, including the Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County region, as well as the Lake Tahoe Basin and the eastern Sierra.

On August 20, 2020, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Corrective Actions will be opening the public comment period for its Draft Proposed Plan: Operable Unit 8 (OU-8) Peripheral Areas located within the Anaconda Copper Mine Site in Lyon County. The public comment period will remain open through September 19, 2020.

More thunderstorms are on the way for northern and western Nevada and the Carson City, Carson Valley region with the potential for stronger thunderstorms and associated lightning strikes Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a Red Flag Warning.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry is open on Sundays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and Tuesdays from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM. Individuals and families who are in need of food can drive up and get a bag of non-perishable food items, fresh produce and dairy items, as well as frozen foods (as available).

Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space welcomes you to our Volunteer Series: Weedy Wednesdays! This volunteer series is running every third Wednesday June through August of this year. Recreational facilities and services in Carson City are beginning to reopen under new provisions by Governor Sisolak’s Phase 2 directives.

The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

June 4th car show that was going to be at Max Casino has been cancelled but now has been moved to Hampton Inn and Suites on North Carson Street. The even is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Food truck will be available, discounted rooms for those who wish, 50/50 raffle, music. Open to all cars and trucks.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry is open to the community for drive-through pick up on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please stop by if you are in need of food. No special paperwork is required (we will complete an intake form at your car if you are a new client), and you may come by even if you have used other food pantries in town. Limited supplies of diapers and baby formula are also available.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.
