Senator Square: Carson High School recognizes its support staff, says goodbye to retirees

Carson High School is pleased to announce individuals who have excelled in their positions as Educational Support Professionals and have been recognized for their works of merit by their peers and coworkers. The ESP employees from CHS are those individuals who enable teachers to focus on the teaching of their students, and every teacher knows that without them, a school could not hope to function.

Patt Quinn-Davis, Carson High School Language Arts teacher and adviser of the school newspaper and Carneta yearbook, is retiring. For Quinn-Davis, the publications staff became a part of her family every year and even more so when students stayed with the program throughout their high school careers.

Senator Square: Carson High School's future business leaders win state awards

Carson High School's Future Business Leaders of America claim five State Championships as well as 40 top 10 awards in spite of pandemic. CHS FBLA students just finished competing in the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held in Reno, but had to be held digitally due to Covid-19.

Events, happenings and more around the Carson City area this Friday through Sunday

Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. Lace up your shoes for a morning walk at Riverview Park, and then head on over to the Nevada State Museum for a coin press demonstration, and tours that explore anthropology and Nevada history. Later there's a cruise night gathering at Carson Mall to benefit Safe Grad Night, an Italian dinner fundraiser at the Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless, live music at Living the Good Life and A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, and much more. In an effort to address social and emotional needs of students, CHS is presenting the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program.

Freshman health classes were the first reached in February. The JROTC students and health science classes are next.

The seventh annual Safe and Sober 2017 5K Run/Walk at the CHS track facility, presented by Carson High Safe Grad Booster, is set for Feb. 11.
