Hello fellow anglers. A very Happy Fishmas to you all. The weather is finally changing into winter coldness, but hopefully we will get some precipitation to boost up our snow pack for a long spring and summer runoff and a good fishing experience for 2021.

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Memorial weekend. As many of you know, Inyo County is closed to fishing until June 1st. But on May 22 the Mono County Board of Supervisors wrote a letter to the CDFW director Charles H Bonham, requesting the reopening of fishing season earlier then their previous request. As of May 23rd, Mono County is now open for the 2020 fishing season, right along Alpine County that opened on May 15th.

For those that will be getting out, Alpine County is open for fishing throughout the county.

Hello fellow anglers, it was just a few weeks ago I was planning a trip with my cousin to go to the Snake River for a fishing derby in May. So many things have changed and we all will have to adjust to make sure that we can make those plans again. Hopefully in our near future.

Hello fellow anglers. I am here to tell you, Topaz Lake was a great opener this year. The weather on Jan. 1 surprised many anglers as we experienced some extreme winds as well as some good rain in the afternoon. But for those who stuck it out, they were all rewarded with a double rainbow.

Hello fellow anglers! We are just a few days away from the Topaz opener on January 1, 2020 after its closure three months ago to this date.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has planted 51,000 pounds of trout, which is approximately 17,800 individual trout.

As a note, the NDOW planted Eagle Lake, Triploid and the Tahoe strain as well. I would have to say, if you don't catch a fish on opening day. It might be time to look for a new sport. With all the trout in the lake with the additional poundage that has been added, fishing should be pretty good.

Hello fellow anglers, and a very "Merry Fishmas" to you all. Although we have a lull in the fishing due to Mother Nature, some anglers have been getting out to try the waters. As many of us look forward to opening day at Topaz Lake on Jan. 1, 2020, I must tell you of a big change this year.

YERINGTON — Celebrate the one year anniversary of the Walker River State Recreation Area grand opening with a day full of fun, games, and educational activities. The staff at Walker River would like to thank everyone who has come out to the park this past year and look forward to many great years to come!

With the weather reaching the mid-80s, now is the perfect time to get out and explore during a jam-packed three days around the Carson City region. Friday has plenty of events to get you to the weekend.

Lace up your walking shoes, pack a lunch, grab a fishing pole and head to any of Nevada's public parks this Saturday, June 8 for “Discover Nevada State Parks” day. Visitors will receive free day-use admission at all of Nevada’s State Parks and the opportunity to fish without a license throughout the Silver State.

Carson City Elks Lodge BPO No. 2177 will host a free kids fishing derby this Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Davis Creek Park. The event is for children ages 4 to 12. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Good morning Carson City, and happy June! We have a ton of events going on today in our beloved capital city, with the June wine walk, the first day of the farmer’s market, a brew fest at Fuji park, and more! With a high of 75, it’s shaping up to finally start to feel like summer (knock on wood).

Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. Lace up your shoes for a morning walk at Riverview Park, and then head on over to the Nevada State Museum for a coin press demonstration, and tours that explore anthropology and Nevada history. Later there's a cruise night gathering at Carson Mall to benefit Safe Grad Night, an Italian dinner fundraiser at the Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless, live music at Living the Good Life and A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, and much more. We will meet at the Lakeview group picnic area. Its Nevada's FREE fishing Day. No license required.

We will have a limited supply of fishing poles available. Please bring your own poles, bait and chairs.

Prizes for the largest fish caught that day by both boy and girl, raffle and FREE lunch at the end of the derby.

Hello fellow anglers, what great time of year. The rivers have opened in California. Which, depending on the new regulation that is being decided on, may not close on November 15th.

As well as Alpine county, the lakes in Inyo and Mono Counties have opened and have been producing some beautiful fish, which I will share later in this report. It's hard to believe how fast the time goes.

Hello fellow anglers, opening day fishing season for California is only a week away. But, before we get to your pre-season report. There are rumors that may have fact to them going around.

California is looking into changing fishing seasons on many lakes and streams. Some areas may be open all year round and possibly change restrictions on others. Since Topaz is a bi-state body of water, the opening day ceremony that so many have come to love and look forward to on January 1st of each year may be a thing of the past.

Hello fellow anglers, I hope Santa was good to you. We are within a few days of the Topaz Lake opener, which is this Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. The water level is coming up, but still down from last year's opener.

Hello fellow anglers, well we are over the full moon and time to get down to the final days of fishing in some areas around the Sierra. Before you venture out, here's a couple tips.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife's annual Free Fishing Day is this Saturday, June 9. Anglers may fish in any public water throughout the Silver State without a fishing license. All limits and other regulations apply.

Hello fellow anglers, there's a lot going on in June as I will be fishing with around 2,000 kids over the next couple of weekends. This weekend I will be at the Lampe Park Kids Fishing Derby in Gardnerville and the Sawmill Pond Kids Fishing Derby in South Lake Tahoe.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case. From the Downtown Carson City Ghost Walk to the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Casino Fandango, a day hike with Muscle Powered to the Spring Blinky Man night-time costumed bike pub crawl – this weekend is chock-full of fun for locals and visitors alike, for the young and young-at-heart.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Keep reading, and I apologize in advance for throwing so many great options your way.

Hello fellow anglers, We are only a week away from Memorial weekend, which means anglers will be everywhere enjoying the beautiful Sierra. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Nevada Department of Wildlife will be planting our surrounding lakes, ponds and rivers with trout.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, and there will be plenty of ways for the family to enjoy spending time together all weekend long. Treat Mom to some new flowers for the garden at the annual Greenhouse Project Plant Sale. The Nevada State Museum has a day full of cowboy-related activities planned. Head up to Virginia City on the V and T for a memorable ride through the hills. Before you head out on your adventures, remember to leave a donation of non-perishable food by your mailbox for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Read on for all of your options.

Not a cloud in the sky, and yet we have been hit by a perfect storm: Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby Day, and the monthly wine walk have all collided. Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

The Carson City Lions Club will hold its annual Kids Fishing Day at Baily Pond at Fuji Park in Carson City this Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. With three local theater groups performing this weekend, you’re sure to find a performance that’s right up your alley. Read on and be prepared to be bombarded with options.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

Hold onto your hats, Carson City, we’re in for a busy weekend. Several events over the last few weeks were re-scheduled due to weather: today you’ll find the make-up for The Greenhouse Project's Early Spring Plant Sale and the Carson High Safe Grad 5K Run/Walk. Get your Roller Derby fix with a scrimmage and a Junior Victory Rollers bout against Santa Cruz. The Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center is where you’ll find ‘Carson’s Got Talent.' Cheer on your favorite local performer and help raise funds for the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels Program. You’ll have to keep reading, this is just the tip of the fun-time iceberg.
