Golf tournament, fundraisers, railbike tours and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. Fishing Report: Fish are still biting despite lower lake levels, river clean up planned for Oct. 17

Hello fellow anglers, Fall is definitely here. Renee and I took a trip through Alpine County last week to enjoy the fall colors. Many trees have turned, while others are just starting to get their true colors.

To get a good look at the viewing, venture up through Highway 88 from Woodfords to Caples Lake. Another good area of fall color viewing is from Woodfords on Highway 89 up to Kinney reservoir on Highway 4 .

'Clean Up The Lake' removes over 8,000 lbs of trash from Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake

Clean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe.

Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

Memorial exhibit, virtual prevention walk, music and more highlight weekend around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Along with live music and a 5K run/walk at Bob McFadden Plaza, there is plenty of excitement buzzing around the state capitol! Read on for more information.

Team of scuba divers begin underwater cleanup efforts at Donner Lake

Colin West, executive director of Clean Up the Lake, a non-profit organization, along with three other scuba divers will be braving the cold water of Donner Lake in Truckee, Calif. for two weeks in an effort to fight trash pollution that began July 6.

Annual July 5 Tahoe beach cleanup nets 500 pounds of trash, 3,495 cigarette butts, 6,515 pieces of plastic

Despite COVID-19 keeping many from Tahoe beaches this season, somehow it didn’t seem to stop the trash from accumulating, but it also didn’t stop Keep Tahoe Blue volunteers from holding their annual beach cleanup.

According to the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s Communications Manager Chris Joseph, the beach clean up kept things smaller this year to make sure social distancing practices were upheld for the safety of volunteers.

Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park closed Mondays for maintenance

Beginning May 18, 2020, Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park will be closed on Mondays for a course maintenance day. During the closure, volunteers will be working on general maintenance to the tee pads, trails, baskets and course clean up.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be hosting a volunteer trash clean-up in the Carson River Canyon Open Space.

Trash Mob takes on Carson City streets Sunday in post Nevada Day cleanup

Carson Demolition, Muscle Powered and the Desert Pigs crew from Lyon County made up an organized group of 28 volunteers who spent Sunday cleaning up Carson City after the Nevada Day festivities Saturday.

According to Muscle Powered's Donna Inversin, 15 bags of recyclables were collected before 11 a.m. with more being scooped up.
