Welcome back to the weekend, readers. Halloween stuff is plentiful (go HERE for a complete list of upcoming activities), pumpkins are patched, the ghosts are walking, and there are loads of events to keep you, your friends and family entertained. The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. tours will leave McFadden Plaza for a trip into Carson’s spooky past. The Carson Beer Crawl will get you out in the crisp autumn air and mingling with your neighbors. Keep reading and you’ll find just the right way to spend the day.

Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid? The Carson Hot Springs have captured one for the day and you can get a photo and some swim time with this illusive creature.

Find the right addition to your doorstep at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, at Joe Benigno’s Pumpkin Fest, or at the Harvest Festival at Gardnerville’s Corley Ranch. Take your apple tree bounty to the Greenhouse Garden Center and they’ll help you turn it into a yummy beverage.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

Marilyn "Mert" Paoli Lewis retired on April 30 after 42 years as a State Farm Agent. She started her career as a Scratch Agency in 1982, meaning she had no customers initially.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.
