The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Nevada Indian Commission Executive Director Stacey Montooth. She has served in that position since her appointment by Governor Steve Sisolak on September 1, 2019. As a member of the governor's cabinet, Montooth serves as the administration's liaison with the 27 Nevada tribes, bands, colonies, and 62,000 urban Indians who have chosen Nevada as their second home.

CARSON CITY — Due to expected overnight snow and cold weather, the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety are anticipating dangerous road conditions in the Carson City, Washoe County and Douglas County areas on Wednesday morning.

Nevada has earned a reputation over the years for ranking at the bottom of all the wrong health care lists. Rose Highway intersections, the Nevada Department of Transportation will launch a virtual public meeting on Jan. 26 to gather public feedback on corridor planning to define future traffic improvements to the lower segment of the highway.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect for much of the region, including the greater Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Washoe Valley areas until 10 p.m. tonight.

With the new year, a new set of laws is once again taking effect.

A 24-year-old man sought by the U.S. Marshals Service was arrested and booked Monday for a $1 million fugitive from justice warrant out of California, a sheriff's deputy report states.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant who was injured in a Dec. 20 shooting is returning to his Carson City home from the hospital today, Tuesday with a full law enforcement escort.

The Nevada State Museum, Carson City offers a slate of in-person and online programs in January, ranging from online family projects to historical lectures. The offerings fall under four different programs: Family Fun Saturday and the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series, both occurring online, as well as Coin Press No. 1 demonstrations and Curator’s Corner programming, both available in-person at the museum. Carson City and Douglas County are again participating in a statewide Christmas tree recycling effort. As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of several drop off locations.

Federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency have been awarded to jurisdictions in the state of Nevada for Phase 38. The eligible spending period for Phase 38 is January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The following is a list of the awards for northern Nevada jurisdictions (counties) including Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe.

Governor Sisolak announced Monday via social media that the first shipment of the approved Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Northern Nevada, showing photos supplied by Carson City Health and Human Services.

Carson City is pleased to offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management, Inc.

As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the drop off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success.

Please remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases prior to recycling; if the tree is longer than six feet, cut the tree into pieces.
