CARSON CITY — The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum announced Thursday it is reopening to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the day after the nation celebrates Martin Luther King Day.

At the November 4, 2020 meeting of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center was awarded $14,150 as part of the COVID-19 Rural Recovery Grant Program to print 40,000 Dayton and Mound House map and brochures.

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

While not illegal or encouraged, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is staffed up to make sure that whoever chooses to do anything non-sanctioned, including independent parading on Carson Street, that whatever they choose to do is done without breaking the law.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum received approval of a grant from the Western States Arts Federation CARES Act Fund in the amount of $20,000.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

The Silver State celebrates its birthday this week in Carson City and will put on a statehood celebration like no other as Nevada Day comes into full swing, featuring the annual parade down Carson Street on Saturday, a carnival at Mills Park, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, activities for adults and kids, contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit every wild hair.

It's that spooky time again, when the leaves begin to fall, Nevada Day is gearing up to bring us the best parade in the state, and our little ghouls and goblins are putting together their terrifying and adorable costumes in preparation for sugary chaos.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of October. Programs highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Carson City Fair, Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show, a fundraiser bike ride, cooking classes, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides on Saturday and much more!

Mormon Station is located in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District, which encompasses over 25 structures and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Join a Park Ranger for a guided walking tour throughout a portion of the historic district. During the approximately one-mile roundtrip walk, we will discuss the significance of the structures located along the route.

For the 27th year, the spookiest historical tour of the capital city is returning this Saturday, June 1 with the Carson City Ghost Walk.

The Carson City Ghost Walk is a seasonal historical tour of Carson City’s west side, a walking history lesson with a touch of the supernatural.

On Saturday, May 25, starting at 9:00 in front of the Capitol building on North Carson Street, the Carson City Historical Society will be offering a 90-minute walking tour to view historic sites east of N. Carson Street, starting with the Capitol Mall area.

Sites will include the Capitol and the Capitol Mall, the Charles Friend Park, the historic area called Chinatown, the old Armory, the site of the former Nevada Orphans Home, the early racetrack and location of the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight, and more.
