Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — It wouldn't be fall in the Carson Valley without the annual Scarecrow and Harvest Festival hosted by Main Street Gardens and East Fork Gallery. Or the Annual Slaughterhouse Lane Coffin and Stretcher Races.

This year Main Street Gardnerville has combined all these events into one big festival called Main Street Fall Fest, with more music, activities, demonstrations and vendors at Heritage Park on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hundreds gathered on the grounds of the Nevada Capitol mall Thursday afternoon at the site of the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial for an annual tribute to fallen peace officers in the state.

Residents and businesses in Nevada’s state capital can show support for Carson City sheriff’s deputies and all law enforcement this spring by shining a blue porch light, Mayor Bob Crowell said Tuesday.

Everywhere you look, we are ready for Halloween: skeletons and cobwebs, pumpkins and monsters, witches and headstones. Tonight is the real deal. There have been several Halloween celebrations already, but nothing beats trick-or-treat night. Get started at the Carson Mall, then head over to the Nevada Humane Society for even more candy. The Downtown Business Association welcomes the costumed kids to their Candy Crawl. But there’s nothing quite like the historic west side when it comes to Halloween.

Chances are, you’ll need to recover from yesterday a little. Downtown Carson City has you covered with a ‘Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday’ bloody mary contest in Arlington Square. Get your trick-or-treat on at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or at the historic Wungnema House at the east end of Mills Park. Grand Entrance at the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow begins at 12 p.m. Its new home at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center (MAC) has let the annual event become even bigger. You’ve got one last chance to get your fill of cotton candy and the Ferris Wheel: the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival closes at 8 p.m.

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. Read on for events throughout Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, Silver and Virginia Cities.

Tricks, treats, and fun for all ages is what Halloween is about. You’ll find numerous reasons to don a costume in this year’s list of everything Halloween. Parties for the adult crowd, haunted houses, and trick or treating are just the tip of the broomstick. Everything is listed chronologically by start time. If it is located outside of Carson City, I’ve put the name of the town in bold face.

Nevada Day is just around the corner, but don’t jump the gun. This weekend offers fun for the young and young-at-heart. If you’ve got more apples than you know what to do with, the Greenhouse Garden Center has a cider press available today. Play BINGO for a good cause at the Carson City Senior Center, and don’t forget your costume. Carson City Symphony Association begins their 34th Season today with a concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater; as always, those under 18 get free admission.

Welcome back to the weekend, readers. Halloween stuff is plentiful (go HERE for a complete list of upcoming activities), pumpkins are patched, the ghosts are walking, and there are loads of events to keep you, your friends and family entertained. The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m.

It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run. You’ve still got plenty of pumpkin opportunities with the Nevada Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train or the Corley Ranch Harvest Festival in Gardnerville. It’s a classic whodunnit on the big screen. For the first time in its 16-year history, the annual Nevada Women's Expo opened in the Nevada state capital Friday night with a ribbon cutting by Carson City officials.

Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

TedX has returned to the Brewery Arts Center, bringing inspiring speakers, great music, and something special to Carson City. If you can’t make it in person, you can catch it online at www.TEDxCarsonCity.com. Break a leg to the talented members of our Carson High School Theater Program – an updated version of the Greek Classic ‘Eurydice’ opens on the Bob Boldrick stage at the Community Center tonight. Bring a floaty to tonight’s Float and Flick at the Carson Valley Swim Center. Hocus Pocus is family friendly and a perfect Friday the Thirteenth film.

We were greatly saddened and angered by the October 1 attack launched by a terrorist from MGM’s Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on the Route 91 Harvest Festival 2017 music concert.

The people we know who were at the concert all had left prior to the attack or managed to get away unharmed. But we have friends who lost people in this horrendous attack. And even folks who did not know anyone directly affected by this mass murder are rightly shocked, angered and troubled by it.

It might be a blustery Sunday, but the snow isn’t falling yet so enjoy what’s left of our Indian Summer. Whatever you couldn’t cram into Saturday is probably still around: the Aviation Round-up, Italian Festival, and the Outhouse races are still going strong. The Carson City BMX season is coming to an end soon, go check out their races at Livermore Sports Complex. Find some inner peace in the newly renovated Comma Coffee with Community Yoga or a Heart-ful Gong Meditation session. See the full listing below.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

UPDATE 9:16AM: At least 59 people died and at least 500 wounded in Sunday night's sniper shooting, said Las Vegas Metro Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo. It is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Both vehicles associated with the now deceased shooter, Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, have been located as has the female person of interest, Paddock's companion Marilou Danley.

With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

The Nevada Women's Expo is coming to Carson City this fall, NWE Producer and Coordinator Joye Kinkade said, bringing the traditional Reno venue to the Nevada state capital for the first time in the event's 16-year history.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, presents The Fire on Saturday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m. in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.

Trick or treat, Carson City. Little ghouls and goblins will be hitting the streets for the annual tradition, so please drive carefully. Avoid the chill by hitting up the Carson Mall or Carson Library for goodies. The Governor will be handing out candy after 5 p.m.; you may want to start your west side visit with our Downtown Business Association’s Candy Crawl. Virginia City’s Goblin Parade is followed by trick or treating down ‘C’ Street. In Minden, don’t miss the annual Trick or Treat Safety Street at the CVIC Hall. Adults can enjoy Halloween Parties at Crossroad’s Lounge or the Blue Bull.

After an action-packed Nevada Day Saturday, Sunday traditions carry on, such as the 35th Annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the Carson Colony gym. Take the kids up to Virginia City for one last chance to catch Thomas the Tank Engine at the V & T Depot. It may be a little rainy, but the show must go on at the NV Day Carnival and Festival at Mills Park.

Happy Birthday Nevada. My favorite holiday has arrived, and with it a mountain of fun to be had. Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease.
