Saturday, January 25

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Join the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department this Tuesday, Nov. 12, for November's Full Moon Hike in the beautiful Kings Canyon area. While experiencing the sights and sounds of the night, a Park Ranger will be leading the group to the waterfall and around the North Kings Loop Trail.

Saturday, October 12

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

NEW WASHOE CITY — October events at Washoe Lake State Park include a Full Moon Hike and a guided hike through the sand dunes.

DAYTON, Nev. — Join park staff for a guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City. Advance reservations are required for this hike and are limited to 20 people.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Rockabilly Riot car show, Dayton Valley Days, a pancreatic cancer awareness walk at Silver Oak Golf Course, the annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Facility, horse endurance races in Virginia City, history talks at Mormon Station Park and much more!

SPOONER LAKE, Nev. — Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike to the famous Sand Harbor Overlook on the Tahoe Rim Trail. The hike is a four-mile loop and offers breathtaking views of Sand Harbor. The hike is moderately difficult, and you’ll need to bring water, lunch, sunscreen and sturdy hiking boots.

As we go forward and move ahead into Tuesday, July 2, 2019 we're looking at another sunny day, all the better as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day. Are you ready for July 4 fireworks at Mills Park? As a Tuesday warmup, get the heart pumping during Muscle Powered's three fitness outings. Plus there's art showings, hands-on science activities in Silver City, an evening archery shoot, a viewing of the 1953 film "From Here to Eternity" at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club and more. Enjoy the day.

Heading into Wednesday, June 12, 2019 means we are half way through the work week. Temperatures will be around the 90 mark with a chance of afternoon showers. Activities lined up include art classes, a hike designed for tots through Carson City Parks and Recreation, a Ninja aerobic class at Yaple's Ballroom and you can hear local author CW Bayer talk about three of his books on area history at Browsers Corner Book Store. Plus Jazz Night at Living the Good Life and Country Night at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. Read on for more.

On the docket today we’ve got day two of the Rib Fest, a Virginia City train tour, museum activities, a heroes parade, and more. As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

Good morning Carson City! It's going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, with highs of 78 and lows of 44. On the docket today we've got a canned food drive to help the Ron Wood Center, a volunteer day to restore the Mills Park train, a Mother's Day Plant Sale, and more! The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

CARSON CITY — A field of wildflowers is one of the most inspiring scenes you can experience in nature, and springtime in Nevada offers an abundance of opportunities to enjoy these blossoming treasures.

Truly a springtime to remember in Carson City as we say goodbye to April, which leaves us with a spontaneous final chill, and hello to Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Temperatures should head back up into the low 60s by afternoon. Looking ahead there's art showings and painting workshops, a C-Hill hike to see the firefighting sheep, a school district strategic planning meeting, a Salsa dance class, and "Ideas on Tap," a monthly series of interactive conversations at The Union Eatery and Taphouse.

Join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department for an educational hike on C-Hill and learn about the ways sheep grazing helps prevent wildfires. Please leave all furry friends at home, as we will be hiking near the sheep as they graze.

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 for a moderately difficult one-mile guided hike up Prison Hill to learn about local history and ecology. At the top, enjoy the view while Community Yogi leads beginner yoga! Please wear sturdy shoes for the hike, bring water, and bring a mat if possible. Meet us at the Dead Truck Canyon Trail head at Silver Saddle Ranch (2648 Carson River Road).

Good morning Carson City, and happy Saturday! Today is a day that will definitely feel like Spring, with temperatures almost to 70 degrees. The low tonight will be 36, reminding us that we haven’t shirked off the cold weather entirely just yet.

On the docket today we’ve got the Wine Walk at the Carson Mall, a Downtown Easter Egg Hunt, an Anniversary Party at Browser’s Bookstore, easter bunny photos, and more!

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space for an easy, two-hour long hike along the Carson River to learn about how the area's early homesteads defined the high desert environment we know today.

This guided hike will be held on Saturday, May 25, beginning at 10 a.m. Go here to sign up.

Hikers should dress for the weather and bring plenty of water. See you there!

Nevada State Park staff will host an April 13 guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City, Nev.

The Rock Point Mill was one of the earliest large mills in Nevada built to crush ore from the Comstock mines. The mill was destroyed by fires in 1882 and 1909, and floods also caused damage. Although the mill was rebuilt, demand lessened and it was dismantled and moved to the Donovan Mill site in Silver City in the 1920s.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the last day of winter. It is Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Here's what is happening around town today, including free admission to the Nevada State Museum.

Daylight Savings Time is about to begin, harkening the approach of Spring. Winter, though, continues its stubborn hold on the region, so bundle up this weekend in spite the extra hour of daylight. There's a chance of snow showers throughout the weekend with daytime highs only into the low 40s.

And remember to set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night!

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a “Watershed Walk” hiking tour this Saturday, March 9 beginning at 1 p.m. at Riverview Park.

NEW WASHOE CITY — Join Nevada State Park staff Tuesday, March 19 for a 2.5 mile guided hike through the sand dunes and enjoy views of Washoe Lake and Slide Mountain.
