Secrets of Harridge House, a weekly radio drama produced by Proscenium Players, Inc. and KNVC 95.1 FM Carson City premieres this Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 at 8 p.m. Created by John Adams and Scott Young, the story follows three siblings who were separated as infants and reunited almost 30-years later as they inherit the family estate in fictional Harridge, Nev.

Poker run, lacrosse, duck fundraiser and more highlight weekend activities around Carson City area

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Proscenium Players, Carson City’s longest running theater company is casting for voice actors in the production of an original radio drama “Secrets of Harridge House” with 13 episodes. The premiere broadcast is scheduled for this fall and multiple seasons are planned.

Carson City casinos adjust to new social distancing procedures

Local customers visited Carson City area casinos on reopening day Thursday, June 4 with new guidelines and safety measures put in place.

After a statewide shutdown in March due to COVID-19, casinos were allowed to resume operations Thursday under safety rules established by the Center for Disease Control and Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Nevada State Bank Secured Approval For 4200+ PPP Loans, Helping Northern Nevada Businesses And NonProfits

RENO - Based on processed applications as of May 13, 2020, Nevada State Bank has announced approval for 4,255 U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans totaling $592,005,500.

More than 68% of the loans were made to businesses with fewer than 10 employees and approximately 82% of the loans approved were for amounts less than $150,000 (57% for amounts less than $50,000). The funding will help preserve payrolls for 65,607 Nevada jobs, based on applicant data.

The Proscenium Players Inc. are performing War of the Worlds in the Brewery Art Center’s Black Box Theatre on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23. The shows starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles directed and narrated a radio drama adaptation of H.G. Wells’s novel War of the Worlds. Audiences tuned-in to hear the stories of Martians crash-landing on earth, not knowing it was only a play, and prompted news stories of widespread panic over a nonexistent alien invasion.

Senator Square: Club opportunities everywhere at Carson High School

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Carson City native, CHS grad Teri Case novels win gold at International Readers' Favorite Awards

Carson City native-born author Teri Case has recently won two Gold Awards at the International Readers' Favorite Awards for her books "Tiger Drive" and "In the Doghouse."

Teri's first book, "Tiger Drive," named for the Carson City street she had lived growing up, is about a fictionalized family coping with many different personalities. It received the Reader' Favorite Gold Award in the "fiction, drama" category.

New York-based playwright, opera librettist, theatre critic, and arts journalist David Cote is the current visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in historic Silver City, Nev.

While he's here in August and September, he hopes to draft a 70-minute, spoken, dramatic monologue for a male performer about carpentry, family, and faith. You can learn more about his creative process during a free, public talk at the Brick at 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City this Thursday August 22, 2019 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in an event that also includes a talk by Chicago-based sculptor Nicole Beck.
