Scientists keep watch on climate and weather as drought grips Nevada
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/14/2021 - 1:50pmRENO — With much of the State of Nevada listed as in extreme drought, Nevadans are facing forecasts for a mild winter, with little precipitation since the rainy season started. With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.

At 6 a.m. Tom and I were on the lake waiting for the official start time. There was an eerie fog-like mist lingering over the lake. It was a cool 18 degrees, and the winds were calm. Our first line went into the water at 6:33 a.m. and the first strike came at 7 a.m.

Former Lyon County mine sees revitalization, restoration work continue

The first phase of the project began in August 2019, and all necessary construction work at the site is on track to be complete by 2029.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.
Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.
Caples Fire 100% Contained, Burned Area Assessment in Progress
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 11/01/2019 - 10:21amPLACERVILLE, Calif. - Incident Commander Kevin Breitwieser has declared that the Caples Fire is now 100% contained and in patrol status at 3,435 acres. There has been almost no change in fire size since October 18. The extreme wind event on October 26 that prompted a public safety power shutoff was a good test of the containment lines and resulted in three small spots which were extinguished. Traces of smoke from interior burning will continue to be visible, but no additional fire growth is expected.

These annual events help protect the community with proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, syringes and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative.

Lake Tahoe Basin fuelwood permit sales begin June 3

Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household.
JoAnne Skelly: Is it legal to catch rainwater in Nevada?

She was referring to putting large barrels under gutter downspouts to catch and store water running off a roof. Many people have done this for years, but actually it was illegal in Nevada until 2017.

Carson City residents trained in administering drug to reverse overdose

“As a recovering heroin addict myself, I’ve seen what it does,” he said. “It sucks.”

The conveniently located Round Up helps people bring unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal.
Collecting expired and unused medications can prevent damage to the water supply that would otherwise result from flushing them down toilets and drains.
Central Lyon County Fire District lifts burning restrictions

Under the new statute, starting in 2022 every California man, woman and child will be restricted to 55 gallons of water use per day. For a family of four, that’s 220 gallons per day.
The penalties for using more water than your allocation under this newest socialist Democrat program? Between $1,000 and $10,000 per day.
