I Love Carson City’s Memorial Weekend Event Summary: May 28-30

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. Take a look at the whole summary: there’s a whole lot of fun to be had around town during this three-day weekend.

The Brewery Arts Center welcomes the Grumpy Old Men to the stage as part of their Bluegrass and Strings Series. Country lovers will want to head to Minden to catch Granger Smith at Carson Valley Inn’s outdoor arena.

Monday we remember those who have fallen while defending our country. The Historic Stewart Cemetery on Snyder will feature a ceremony at 10 a.m. Lone Mountain Cemetery hosts a ceremony at 1 p.m. and the public is invited to help remove the several hundred flags that were placed on the graves of veterans at 4 p.m. Dayton Cemetery holds their service at 9 a.m. Enjoy a free bar-be-que at Evergreen Gene’s. A 32 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night at 10:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Lake Glen Drive for misdemeanor first offense domestic battery of his ex-fiance, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

UPDATE 6:52PM: Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the Stephanie Fire burning in northeast Douglas County, with a reported 10 acres burned. It was originally reported as 18 acres but was downsized. The cause was a vehicle. Douglas County notes there wasn't a plane crash that had been rumored. East Fork Fire and multiple agencies responded.

Pleasant fall weather is ahead Friday and Saturday for Carson City and throughout the region, with mostly clear skies, warm days and cool nights, according to the National Weather Service.

In the aftermath of the terrible shootings in Las Vegas, the broadcasters of the great state of Nevada present “Broadcasters Unite Nevada Day,” Friday, Oct. 6. All Nevadans are urged to be Nevada Proud and show your unity by wearing our state colors, Silver and Blue.

In a way, Hannah McDonald is claiming her legacy when she takes over at the end of this month as director of Partnership Carson City.

“As a kid, I grew up in prevention work,” she said. “I naturally kind of fell into the effort.”

Carson City sheriff’s deputies arrested two men in separate alleged stolen vehicle incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Two men were also arrested in separate incidents for alleged domestic battery offenses.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in attempting to identify a person involved in an incident of possible child luring. On Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m. a young female was walking in the area of Koontz and Hillview in south Carson City. While walking in the area, the young female was approached by an unknown male in a copper colored Ford Ranger pickup.
