Sharing a Cup: Carson City Sheriff's Office first 'Coffee with a Cop' a success
Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel and local residents met Wednesday for the inaugural “Coffee With a Cop," a low-key event at Dunkin’ Donuts where community members could chat with law enforcement officers over coffee.
The event brought dozens of citizens to meet with representatives of different departments within the sheriff’s office, including dispatch, K-9, Special Enforcement Team, Motors Patrol and Detention. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were also on hand.
Sheriff Ken Furlong said he was pleased by the response and the conversations that took place, where people asked questions about the agency and local law enforcement issues and measures.
Catherine Haskell and Sandy Borges attended the event and said it was an ideal setting for them to ask about what the agency does. Kevin Howell, who lost his son, CCSO Deputy Carl Howell in 2015, attended the event as he does other local law enforcement gatherings to show his support for the men and women of the department.
"This is something really good for the community," Howell said.
Guest Daniel Andrews talked with deputies about communication functions at the department and his own hobby in HAM radio.
“Coffee with a Cop” is a growing initiative across America with more than 650 law enforcement agencies in 47 states participating. The idea behind it is to allow officers and the community a relaxed time to exchange topics and share information in a comfortable setting.
