CARSON CITY — Efforts to secure voting rights for Nevada women began as early as 1869 — just five years after statehood – but it wouldn’t be until 1914 that male voters passed the state’s women’s suffrage amendment.

The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. ‘Colonizing Space,’ ‘Extreme Places’ Presentations at JCDO Accompany Mike Thomas to one-of-a-kind spots and outer space for the Northern Nevada lecturer’s opening presentations of 2020 at Jack C. Davis Observatory.

Thomas will talk about “Extreme Places” on Friday, Feb. 7 and “Colonizing Space” on Saturday, Feb. 8. other lectures are free to the public and begin at 6:30 p.m.; doors to the observatory open at 6 p.m.

In recognition of February as American Heart Month, Carson Tahoe Health will be participating in and hosting several educational and awareness events throughout the month.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.
