Experience spectacular views of the official Virginia City fireworks show from our beautiful historic balcony and attic. This rare opportunity to sit on our balcony or look out our fourth-story windows will create memories for years to come. These areas are usually not open to the public.

A walk down the wooden board sidewalks demonstrates this in the many memorial flags of those who gave their lives in service. Because honoring our veterans is so important, Virginia City will be holding a Veterans Day Cruise today, Wednesday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. on C Street.

Storey County cancels Virginia City Fireworks amid COVID-19 concerns, Cruise to continue as planned
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Tue, 06/30/2020 - 2:57pmAccording to Storey County Commissioner Jay Carmona the fireworks show in Virginia City has been canceled today as of 1 p.m. The Cruise will be continuing as planned.
According to Carmona, there was an issue with releasing the cancellation announcement but the fireworks are indeed cancelled this year.

While the annual Fourth of July firework shows began to be cancelled throughout the Silver State in May, Virginia City has opted for a social distancing celebration.

But how do you throw a parade during the age of social distancing and with many COVID-19 restrictions still in place? Easy. What is traditionally one of the largest parades for the historic town, the Memorial Day Parade, will turn into a cruise honoring our country’s fallen heroes.
Nevada Commission for Women unveils historic license plate honoring 100 years of women's suffrage
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 11/02/2019 - 4:17pmThe Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.
The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

The annual Westside Cruise ia a part of Bike Month, and one of the zanier events. Dress you and your bike up and head off to explore the historic district. Happy one year Anniversary to Battle Born Social. The restaurant and lounge will be celebrating with cocktails, appetizers and more; there is a $20 cover for the event, but that money will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Carson City Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. They will be dressing from the corset out, including what a lady wore during the day, depending on what activity she was attending. Yvonne has been sewing costumes for over 30 years. She and her friends enjoy getting together often to sew their historical dresses from the 1860's, 1870's and 1880's.
Storey County: Social media rumors of Geiger Grade closure, fire at Fourth Ward School are false
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/12/2017 - 1:44pmThere appears to be a reoccurring rumor that Geiger Grade is or has closed, partially due to a mudslide. This is not true. Geiger Grade is open and has been throughout the entire flood and current snow incidents, Storey County officials confirm.
