The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michael “Mike” Smith, a retired high school principal who relocated to Carson City from the Memphis area in 2017. His PowerPoint presentation will commemorate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday observed in his honor since 1986.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak released the final viewing details for the 2021 State of the State address that happens Tuesday.The pre-program begins at 5:45 p.m. and will air at the link here. Then, at 6 p.m., the 2021 address will air by going to the link here.

UPDATE MONDAY: The Carson City Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting this Thursday, 1 p.m. to discuss and take possible action regarding the appointment of a person to fill an anticipated vacancy in the office of Ward 3 Supervisor on the Board of Supervisors for a term that begins Jan. 4, 2021 and ends Jan. 1, 2023.

The Brewery Arts Center and Carson City have teamed up with musician Eric Henry Andersen for an updated version of Home Means Nevada.

For the second year, Nevada Day has its own brew to call its own, made at Carson City's own Shoe Tree Brewing Company.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has recognized Thursday, Oct. 1 as “Vegas Strong Day in Nevada” and ordered Nevada State flags be flown at half-staff at all State public buildings in tribute to the victims of the October 1, 2017, shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas.

A lot of people knew Bob Crowell better and longer than I did. My heart goes out to them all. My heart also goes out to the communities he served. They may not know what they have lost. They have lost a selfless, consensus building and principled advocate.

Bob could sit for hours in rooms with people who righteously argued their positions - talking over one another. Bob would not weigh in. He would listen. Really listen. And then he would find common ground. And things would move forward.

He was a devoted husband. Father. Grandfather. I don’t have the words to speak for their loss.

CARSON CITY — By executive order, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and state public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Ben Jenkins, whose funeral is being held today in Elko.

For 22 years, the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial hosted a ceremony to bear witness to the unification of statewide law enforcement agencies and honor Nevada’s officers killed in the line of duty.

UPDATE: Carson City meal sites are expected to begin Tuesday, March 17, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Elementary School, Mark Twain Elementary School, Seeliger Elementary School, and Carson High School.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. The Michael Furlong Band will rock the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City at "A Face in the Crowd," a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute show this Saturday night, March 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the band will keep Tom Petty fans on the dance floor until the show wraps up at 10 p.m.

In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with DeeDee Foremaster, director of Do Drop In, a local center in Carson City that provides services for the homeless.

As part of its celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint — Mint 150 — the museum is hosting Kids Minting Days on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9. Children 17 and younger are admitted for free and each child will receive a commemorative copper medallion memorializing the Mint’s 150th anniversary.

Activities around the capital city Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Carson City Republican Women's Club luncheon honoring our veterans, a kindergarten open house at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School, a safety presentation for older adults presented by Carson City TRIAD; fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, Art Night Out at the Carson City Library and more.

The Carson City Republican Women's Club is grateful for veterans and it will honor them at its upcoming meeting Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Casino Fandango Ballroom.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November meeting. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Evan Morrison, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Fallon.

Carson City based In Plain Sight Marketing was honored with nine awards for excellence in public relations and community excellence by the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at the organization’s annual event last week.

The 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City.

“I am thrilled this year to be working with chefs and sponsors Collin Smith and Chris Nealon of Roundabout Catering,” said Chef Charlie Abowd, who first started the dinner 12 years ago as a tribute to his father, restaurateur Paul Abowd, and 11 years ago, decided to turn the event into an event that provides a large part of TGP’s annual operating budget.
