Russian-Speaking Visitors Experience Nevada History
A bright blue sky and the clear, crisp fall air made for a perfect setting for a visit to Carson City by a group of Russian-speaking guests from the San Francisco Bay area.
On Wednesday, October 4, the City hosted fifty visitors who experienced a little bit of Nevada’s and Carson City’s history.
The Capitol Building served as the initial focus for the experience. Led by Friends of the Nevada State Museum tour guide Dan Neverett, he shared stories about the Capitol, Nevada governors including Nye, Dickerson, and Sadler, and the historic Nevada Lincoln portrait with the group.
Following the Capitol tour, Friends member and local history buff, Debbie Lane, joined the group aboard their bus and narrated a tour of the historic west side of the City.
The tour included the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street, where Brian Sandoval, the state’s 29th governor, and his family reside. Former Gov. Denver Dickerson (1909-1911) and his family were the first to live in the Governor’s Mansion.
Also included were the Hannah Clapp home, the Bliss Mansion, “The Shootist” house, the Curry home, and the Ferris Mansion.
Much of the tour followed Carson City’s “Blue Line Trail,” a path through the historic district designated by a painted blue line and bronze medallions along the route.
Continuing by popular demand, Friends of the Nevada State Museum (FNSM) guide Ron Roberts will lead another tour highlighting the homes of former Nevada governors on Tuesday, October 10 at 9 a.m. and on Friday, October 27 at 1:30 pm.
The tours are offered as part of the activities sponsored by the FNSM and will begin in front of the Nevada State Museum on Carson Street.
