The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding its first open house of 2023 at the historic Wungnema House this Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the last stretch of the weekend. Enjoy sunny skies with a high near 60. It will be a nice day for a bike ride or walking tours of two historic Carson City landmarks or perhaps take in a concert at the community center or laughs at the final performance of Carson City’s theater company PPI and their female version of "The Odd Couple at the Brewery Art Center's Black Box Theater. The year is nearly over and winter is upon us; avoid an early onset of cabin fever, and stretch your legs by coming out to the Wungnema House for the last open house of 2019 on Sunday, Dec. 29 and learn about some of unique and enduring contributions a family of Native Americans made to our area. Access to the Wungnema House is off Saliman Road, opposite Carson High School.

Heading into the weekend, post-Christmas holiday activities continue around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

November is National Native American Heritage Month; observe the month by learning about some unique and enduring contributions a family of Native Americans made to our area. As the month winds down, and the good weather still holds, come out and visit the historic Wungnema House on the east side of Mills Park on Sunday, November 24th during the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house.

As Carson City’s disc golf complex nears completion, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s president, David Johnson, announced that the Foundation recently received a generous donation from the Nevada Division of the National Pony Express Association, for the sponsorship of a hole at the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park.

As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. Ideal spring weather before the next system arrives Monday bringing with it warmer temperatures but showers as well. Today there's art gallery showings, two children's theater performances, a bike ride and a tour of the stone Wungnema House at Mills Park.

Could we be in the dog days of January? Sunday is shaping up to be absolutely gorgeous and unseasonably warm for this time of year with a forecast high of 61 degrees and mostly sunny skies.
