Retired fire chief Stacey Giomi to run for Carson City Supervisor Ward 1
Retired Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi has declared his candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 1 after current supervisor Karen Abowd announced she won’t seek a third term.
"Karen has done a tremendous job serving the people of Carson City,” he said. “Her passion and dedication has had a positive impact on our community. If elected, I would be honored to fill her seat on the Board of Supervisors.”
Giomi joined the Carson City Fire Department in 1983 as a dispatcher and then firefighter, and rose through the ranks, being named Fire Chief in 2005. He retired from the department in 2015.
Giomi says that experience will benefit city residents, “Our city is at a cross road. We are gaining new business and residents. We need to be ready to take advantage of what makes our community great, while ensuring the success of our local residents and businesses,” he said. “I've had the opportunity to watch our community `grow-up’ and I'm committed to making sure our actions reflect our community’s values, make fiscal sense and considers any impact to our residents.”
Since leaving the fire department Giomi has worked as the Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Center, Inc. He currently serves at the Director of Operations for Rural Programs. The statewide nonprofit provides health services to uninsured, under-insured and the homeless in Nevada.
Giomi serves as a Governor’s appointment on the Funding Committee of the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security as the Committee Chairman, the State Emergency Response Commission, and Emergency Management Coordinating Council. He is the current President of the Advocates to End Domestic Violence and is on the board of the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association as immediate Past President.
Giomi has lived in Carson City since 1977 and is a graduate of Carson High School. He received dual Bachelor’s degrees from Cogswell College in Sunnyvale, California. He raised two children in Carson City, both of whom graduated from Carson High School and went on to graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno.
