I Love Carson City’s Easter Weekend Event Summary: March 31 – April 1

We’ve got a beautiful spring weekend to enjoy. I’d like to make this easy on you: if you are only looking for Easter-related fun, you’ll find it all HERE in my list of everything Easter. Those events are also included in this list, but there is so much more going on. Take a hike with Muscle Powered, get down to some live music, or cheer on your favorite roller derby girl. Take a look and see what this weekend has to offer.

SATURDAY:

• — Dayton Pride: Paint the ‘D’ Work Day – Meet at the Dayton Rodeo Grounds, 500 Schaad Lane, Dayton (7am-7pm, stay as long or short as you’d like; Bring your own work gloves and string mop; complimentary coffee and treats for volunteers)
• — Breakfast and Bowling at Carson Lanes (9am-12pm breakfast and unlimited bowling; $13, $8 for kids 8 and younger)
• — Third annual Spring Fling at Lattin Farms: 1955 McLean Rd, Fallon (9am-5pm, Easter Egg Hunt at 10am; free entry; Visit with the Easter Bunny, Petting Zoo, crafters, baked goods, commercial vendors, fresh produce, face painting, kids activities and more)
• — Muscle Powered: Day Hike along the Longview/Lincoln Bypass Trail (Hike begins 9:30am – This will be a half-day hike, approximately 6 miles, and considered an easy Intermediate hike with one relatively steep section. The hike begins at the path on Kings Canyon Road across from Longview Way. There is limited parking along the road at the starting path but additional parking is on Longview Way. This is an out-and-back trail with uphill and downhill throughout the trail but with nice switchbacks. Parts of the trail may be muddy. Water, snacks and closed toed, sturdy hiking footwear are required. Hiking poles are highly recommended. • — The Metropolitan Opera: Cosi Fan Tutte at Galaxy Theater- Fandango (9:55am; $20)
• — First annual Egg-stra Special Express at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (10am-4pm, museum admission $8, free for those under 18; Rides on the 1926 Edwards Motor Car $4 adults, $2 kids and FNSRM members; Egg hunts: 11am for ages 1-3 with one adult per child allowed in egg area, 1pm for ages 4+ with NO adults allowed in egg area; 12pm AND 2pm Story time; Crafts and coloring available in Museum all day long; Easter Egg search in Museum all day long - one egg per child)
• — Half-off Everything at the Carson City Senior Center Thrift Shop: 911 Beverly Drive (10am-3:30pm; includes Boutique and Furniture; books are not included; benefits the Meals on Wheels Program)

Fun for Carson kids is as close as the Railroad Museum or Western Nevada College. The annual Easter Fiesta at the College is fun for all ages. Take a ride on the historic Edwards Motor Car and search the museum for hidden eggs. Either one is a great choice.

• — Ninth annual Easter Fiesta in Western Nevada College’s Rotary Plaza (10am-3pm; Free Egg Scramble at 1pm; Game tickets: $1 per ticket; sponsored by the Association of Latin American Students)
• — Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bunny at James Lee Memorial Park: 3394 James Lee Park Rd., Indian Hills (hunt begins promptly at 10am; Age groups: 0-3, 4-6 and 7-10)
• — 23rd annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Silver Springs Day Use Area of the Lahontan State Recreation Area - enter from the Silver Springs entrance off Fir St. you’re your participation ticket between 9:15am and 9:45am, hunt begins 10am SHARP; hunt broken up into four age groups, each with own search area; raffle for prizes to follow; park entry fee waived for participants)
• — Easter Egg Hunt and Family Brunch at the Mark Twain Community Center: 500 Sam Clemens Ave, Dayton – old Fire Station off Six Mile (Egg Hunts: 11am ages 1-3, 11:15am ages 4-12; Win one of four Easter Baskets or one of two bikes; free ham brunch to follow)
• — Second annual ‘Big Egg Hunt’ at the Gold Canyon Café: 160 Main St., Dayton (Hunt begins 11am; visit with the Easter Bunny; raffles)
• — Resurrection Egg Hunt at the Calvary Church Dayton Valley: 28 Enterprise Way, Dayton (11am-1pm; hot dogs, crafts, candy, a bike raffle and more)
• — Noon Music with CW in the A to Zen: 1803 N. Carson St. (12pm-2pm)
• — Annual Easter Bonnet and Pet Parade in Virginia City (12pm; Line up and registration begins at 11:30 at the Jerky Company on C Street for those who would like to participate)
• — South Valley Volunteer Fire Department Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park, in the Group Use Area pavilion (Easter Bunny shows up at 12pm, group hunt begins at 12:30pm sharp; BBQ lunch available for purchase; park admission fee is waived for this event; It's best to arrive early, as parking get crowded)
• — Fourth Saturday Work Days in the Heritage Park Community Gardens: 1461 Ezell St, Gardnerville (12pm-3pm; Come join us and enjoy a day outdoors improving your community and growing food for those in need. We need help on levels from beginners to Master Gardeners)
• — Sewing Workshop: Envelope Electronics Case in the Carson City Library Makerspace (1pm-3pm; Participants will be taught the steps to make a cloth case for a computer tablet or similar device. Materials will be provided or attendees may bring their own. It is suggested for participants to bring their device with them or measure it beforehand; Must Register HERE; It is required to complete the Sewing Machine Operation certification class before attending this workshop AND you must have a Premiere Library card)

The Carson City Library is all shiny and new. The new sewing machines in their Makerspace give the community the opportunity to learn new skills. To participate you’ll need to apply for a ‘premiere’ library card and take a certification class, but it’s not a difficult process.

• — Douglas Drama presents ‘Game of Tiaras’ in the Douglas High School Drama Room, Room 101, Minden (2pm; $10 at the door, matinees free for students; What happens when you mix comedy with Shakespeare’s King Lear, Game of Thrones, and Disney princesses? The Game of Tiaras, of course; Parental Discretion: Rated PG. This is NOT your daughter’s fairytale)

• — Silver City Arts Group Monthly Acoustic Jam at the Silver City School House Community Center: 175 High St., Silver City (3pm-5pm; Bring your instruments and/or your singing voice)

• — Underwater Egg Hunt and ‘Dive-in Movie’ at the Carson City Aquatic Facility: 841 N. • — Books and Brew Book Club in the Barrel Room at Alatte Coffee and Wine Bar inside the Carson Nugget (5pm; this month’s book is "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot; Please come ready to discuss the book and to have a good time)

I was tempted to sneak in a few ‘April Fools’ entries into Sunday’s listing, but I was afraid that too many people would show up at the Ormsby House for their Grand Opening party. Most of today’s happenings are Easter related, with a spattering of reoccurring events. It's opening day for Carson City BMX. It's two-wheeled fun open to all ages, so go see what all the fuss is about. For the adult crowd, the annual Easter Party at Carson Cigar Co. is a relaxing way to avoid the sugar-addled kiddies.
