Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Hi everyone! It's that time of year again where we are starting to collect Easter baskets. We are in need of 80 total Easter baskets with candy, small new toys, goodies, plastic eggs, etc. for children in the domestic abuse shelter.

Good morning Carson City, and Happy Easter! Today will be more of the same with partly cloudy skies, gentle breezes, possible showers, with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 37 degrees. On the schedule today we have day two of egg hunting at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, an Easter Sunday service at the Community Center, a community bike ride, and more!

For the second year in a row, the Carson City Aquatic Center's Underwater Egg Hunt was a hit, and some could say, went off swimmingly.

Three hundred children pre-registered for the event, which was held in timed sessions in both the main pool and the tot pool. Eggs were dispersed at the pool's surface as well as sunken eggs which children dove for.

Easter is this upcoming weekend, which means there will be a lot of small children, colored eggs, pastel colors, bunnies, candy, and festive spirits to be had. But Easter Sunday isn't the only day for egg hunts. Here's a list of upcoming egg-related activities for Carson City residents.

With spring underway, April events at Washoe Lake State Park north of Carson City in Washoe Valley include an evening hike, an Easter Egg Hunt, and a birdwatching program.

The Underwater Egg Hunt is back! Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space as they go on an egg hunt at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Saturday, April 20.

Some eggs will be floating on top of the pool, some will be at the bottom of the pool. Egg hunts will be separated by age group in various pools at the Carson Aquatic Facility. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m.

Registration is required in advance this year. You can register at www.carson.org/ccpr

The event is free and open to children up to 12-years of age. Children 6 and under must be with a participating adult.

Northern Nevada Hotspot and Faith Hope Love Of Northern Nevada are collecting donations of small toys, goodies, candy and Easter baskets from now until April 14. They will deliver the Easter baskets and the candy-filled plastic eggs for an egg hunt on Saturday, April 20.

Sierra-Tahoe Branch and Unit #137 of the Fleet Reserve Association hosted the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Marine Corp Mountain Training Center, Housing Area, Coleville, CA which was well received by the children and parents.

The Branch & Auxiliary members prepared 600 plastic eggs and stuffed them with candy and small toys. In addition, one of the members made bunnies out of washcloths which the children can use instead of an ice pack (also known as boo-boo bunnies).

Happy Easter Carson City and surrounding towns. Most of today’s happenings are Easter related, with a spattering of reoccurring events. It's opening day for Carson City BMX. It's two-wheeled fun open to all ages, so go see what all the fuss is about. For the adult crowd, the annual Easter Party at Carson Cigar Co. is a relaxing way to avoid the sugar-addled kiddies. It was a hop, skip and jump in Carson City on Thursday afternoon as Scoups Ice Cream and Soup Bar teamed up with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club to bring plenty of family-friendly Easter fun to the downtown area.

Let’s get a jump on Easter weekend. Head down to McFadden Plaza this afternoon for kids activities, an egg hunt, and a special showing of the classic movie ‘Easter Parade.’ The beautiful weather is just begging to be celebrated, so join up with Muscle Powered for a hike up to Timberline. Bring a camera, the views of the valley will be spectacular. Happy birthday to everyone that was born in March. The Carson Cigar Company holds their monthly Birthday Thursday celebration tonight with live music featuring the Trippin King Snakes. If you’re in Dayton, swing by 1st and 10 Sports Bar tonight.

Easter festivities are on the way, starting with the Easter Eggstravaganza in the Bob McFadden Plaza on Thursday. You’ll find fun stuff: Easter Bunny photos, brunches, egg hunts, services and more throughout Carson City, Dayton, Douglas, and Virginia City. To make it easier to find something in your neck of the woods, I’ve put in ‘bold’ the name of any town outside of Carson City.

THURSDAY:

March came in like a lion, and it is going out as a sweet, fluffy lamb. Easter is just a few days away and the fun times and activities for the little ones don’t seem to be in danger of getting snowed out. Find the right egg hunt for your family in my Easter Fun list HERE.

Scoups Ice Cream and Soup Bar has partnered this year with Carson City Classic Cinema Club to bring family-friendly fun to downtown Carson City, Scoups owners Geoffrey and Kimberly Landry said.

The Easter Bunny is coming to the Carson Mall in Carson City on March 31.

Kid-friendly activities start at 3 p.m. A free Easter egg hunt starts at 5 p.m.

Carson City BMX is hoping to start it's 2018 racing season on Sunday, April 1.

Hopefully, Mother Nature will be kind and let the track dry out so that we may complete the prep work.

So, fingers crossed, first race of the season is scheduled for Sunday, April 1 with sign-ups from 9-10 a.m. Racing begins shortly thereafter.

There will be an Easter egg hunt as well as a bunny hop contest. So get your bikes tuned up, find your gear, grab your helmet, and let's race!
