Carson City crime log: Deputy assaulted while arresting man for felony drug warrants

A Carson City man who was booked Saturday for two felony warrants alleging drug trafficking and possession also faces a gross misdemeanor battery on a police officer charge after assaulting the deputy at the time of arrest, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Daniel Gerson Meza, 21, also faces a misdemeanor resisting an officer with violence charge as well as domestic battery. Also booked was his 20-year-old girlfriend who faces misdemeanor domestic battery and obstructing charges.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called at 11:14 a.m. to the 3200 block of Imperial Way for a domestic battery.

Arriving officers spoke with the suspect who admitted he and his girlfriend were arguing but denied a battery occurred.

A computer records check showed the man had two felony warrants out of Lyon County: One for trafficking, and the second for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. As the investigating deputy attempted to place handcuffs on Meza, the woman began to intervene with officers. She was told to go back inside the apartment.

While in handcuffs Meza attempted to head butt the arresting deputy, kicked the deputy and then repeatedly used his elbow to hit the deputy in the crotch area saying “how do you like that bitch,” and “f*ck you pigs,” according to the arrest report.

Other deputies attempted to gain control of Meza, who continued assaulting the deputy. As that was happening, the man’s girlfriend came out of the residence, again and began yelling at and interfering with deputies. She was told several times, again repeatedly, to go back inside, the arrest report states.

Meza was taken to jail for the multiple charges. Bail: $166,637. The 20 year-old woman was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery and obstructing, both misdemeanors. Bail: $3,774.

Meanwhile, the deputy Meza attacked suffered injuries to her right leg.

David R. Ramey was taken into custody at 8:44 p.m. He also faces misdemeanor charges of DUI, reckless driving and obstructing a police officer.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding a man harassing a neighbor. Deputies learned Ramey, who later admitted to drinking vodka throughout the day, charged the apartment door of the reporting witness after talking about a fight he was recently in.

Ramey then took off in his vehicle. Deputies located him in the area of Woodside and Siskiyou and attempted to initiate traffic stops. Ramey continued driving, not stopping and then he came to a stop at Douglas and Continental Drive where he opened the driver door, flipped off the deputy who told him to exit the car, and then sped off again, the arrest report states.

Ramey continued eastbound of Highway 50 at a high rate of speed. A sheriff’s office sergeant made a decision to ram Ramey’s vehicle so he could not continue to reach high rates of speed, endangering the public.

Ramey crashed his vehicle and was detained. He smelled strongly of alcohol and told officers he had been drinking vodka all day. Deputies were granted a telephonic search warrant to allow for a blood draw. Bail: $22,171.
