Carson City crime log: Man found passed out on couch after homeowner left for work
A 22-year-old Dayton man was arrested early Friday for misdemeanor suspicion of trespassing and destruction of property after he allegedly walked into a home and passed out on a couch, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The intoxicated man, not known to members of the household, was discovered at around 6:45 a.m. sleeping on a couch that had been urinated on as well as himself, according to the arrest report.
According to the victim, she left the East Spear Street home for work and saw the man standing near the residence looking at her. Once she left the area, the man apparently walked into the front door of the home, which was left unlocked. The victim’s daughter discovered the man on the sofa sleeping, the arrest report states.
The man was arrested for trespassing and destruction of property, a new sofa, recently purchased for $750, the arrest report states.
The suspect blew a .08 on a preliminary breath test at around 7 a.m. and was taken to jail. Bail: $2,879.
In other arrests:
— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the 2000 block of West College Parkway for a parole and probation priority hold, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jonathan Baumgardner was taken into custody at 7:49 p.m. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
— A 47-year-old transient, Michael Gavin Galceran, was booked into jail Thursday, 1:50 p.m. for a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued Sept. 12, 2016 out of El Dorado County Superior Court. Bail: $335,000.
— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:26 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 for misdemeanor driving on a suspended license, and driving with expired registration. Bail: $709.
— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 7:31 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of obtaining money under false pretenses and attempting to obtain money under false pretenses.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatch to Walmart for a larceny and met with loss prevention, who advised he was looking for a female and suspect from a previous larceny.
Loss prevention advised they had made contact with the woman and escorted her to the office to speak with her about the incidents. The woman admitted to stealing a flashlight at another store and was attempting to return it. The woman further admitted to loss prevention to stealing bottle of alcohol on Oct. 15 and had returned it that day for cash.
A deputy made contact with the suspect and read her Miranda rights. The woman agreed to speak and told deputies on Oct. 15 she found a receipt outside of the store. She said she saw a bottle of alcohol was purchased on the receipt. She said she went to Walmart on Oct. 15 and stole the bottle of alcohol and then returned to the store later and returned the bottle for cash.
She explained she attempted to do the same with the flashlight, valued at $15.95. She told the officers the flashlight was stolen from another store and she attempted to return it when she was approached by loss prevention.
Loss prevention provided video of the customer who had purchased the bottle of alcohol on Oct. 15. The video showed the suspect picking up the receipt off the ground and then going into the alcohol department, selecting the same type of alcohol and returned it for $26.33. Bail: $2,274.
— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 6 p.m. in the area of Mills Park for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant on a domestic battery charge issued in 2002 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
