— Tuesday Morning Walk to Linear Ditch Trail-West hosted by Muscle Powered. 9 a.m. Come and join Muscle Powered for its weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meet in the parking lot at Governor's Field on Evalyn Street off of Roop Street. Pavement path. Water and closed-toe shoes required. All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

— Carson Tahoe Health's Help Your Heart Educational Series. 12 noon. Celebrate American Heart Month with our FREE "Help Your Heart" Health and Wellness Educational Series. All events take place at the Health & Wellness Institute, 1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. No need to RSVP, just stop by! — Author of 'Lost Carson City' featured at Nevada State Archives brown bag luncheon. Noon. Peter Mires, author of the book, "Lost Carson City," will be the featured speaker at the monthly brown bag luncheon held Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 12-1 p.m. inside the Nevada State Archives board room in Carson City. 100 North Stewart Street. — Winter sport conditioning program continues into 2019 at Well Being. 5:30 p.m. By Popular Demand Well Being Massage and Functional Fitness will continue to run its Winter Sport Conditioning Program with 3-week sessions. The winter season is rocking. Will you be? Lock in your best season of skiing, trekking, snow-boarding and snow mobiling ever and ensure yourself that when the snow calls you, your fitness level will not let you down. The 3-week session will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019. — Tuesday Night Hike - Carson City Freeway Multi-Use Path hosted by Muscle Powered. 5:30 p.m. Join our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet in the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center's (MAC) parking lot at 1860 Russell Way. BRING A FLASHLIGHT as it will be dark on these walks. Water and closed-toe shoes required. For the winter, these hikes are moving onto paved paths in town and will be 3-5 miles long and with duration of about 1-1/2 hours. — Improvisational Acting for Youth Ages 9-14 at the Brewery Arts Center. 5:30 p.m. Have fun with Improv! We will use games, team-building exercises and basic improvisational acting structures. They will put on a show for their families and friends during the last class.

— Special gala to celebrate grand re-opening of theater at Carson City Community Center. RSVP only. 6:30 p.m. The Carson City Chamber is spearheading a special gala to celebrate the grand re-opening of the theater within the Carson City Community Center. Currently, the lobby is a blank slate, and the planned Tuesday, Feb. 12 gala will be a fundraiser to put in much needed finishing touches to complement the newly renovated theater interior.

— Carson Fly Fishing Club Meeting. 6:30 p.m. The next Carson Fly Fishing Club general monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff's Office, 911 E. Musser Street in Carson City.
Come to our club gathering and meet fellow fishing enthusiasts; listen and learn from guest speakers; enjoy a chance to win a prize in the raffle; hear the latest fishing stories, and much more. At this month's meeting, we will feature Kris Urquhart, a NDOW Biologist. As an added bonus, at 6:30 p.m., Ed Latour will demonstrate tying his Hinkson Slough Special. — Carson City School Board February meeting to discuss funding changes, policy, and more. 6:30 p.m. The February meeting of the Carson City School Board will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street. The meeting will be called to order at 6:30 p.m. On the table for discussion in the February meeting will be new English Language Arts materials, capital projects, changes to funding, and more.

— Mile High Jazz Band Presents 'Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts' Feb. 12 in Carson City. 7:30 p.m. Treat your Valentine to A Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts, an evening of sweet and hot big-band music by the Mile High Jazz Band with singer Jakki Ford at Living the Good Life Bistro, 1480 N. Carson Street, in Carson City on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, donations welcome. Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts features the 17-member band playing jazzy versions of favorite love songs for Valentine's Day, and other swinging, big-band selections.
Highlights of the evening include The Way You Look Tonight, Prelude to a Kiss, and It Could Happen to You. The performance is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. — 'Tell Me You Love Me' Romance Film Competition open for registration. Tell Me You Love Me Short Romance Film competition is now open for registration. Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 30, registered filmmakers will have exactly one week to conceive, write, produce and complete a short romance film that’s between 5- and 9-minutes long.
All of the films will be screened at a special dinner and screening event at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Valentine's Day. “We offer a great alternative to the usual Valentines Day activities; people can enjoy a nice catered dinner and watch some great films made by local filmmakers,” says Darla Bayer, the President of Wired Wednesday Digital Arts Association, the organization that runs this film competition and two others throughout the year. Filmmakers may register at www.wiredwednesday.org, and reservations for the dinner and screening event may be secured by calling or texting Bayer at (775) 830-7939. Last year’s event sold out several days before Valentine's Day.

— Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "The Felt Works" exhibition featuring the works of artist Svea Ferguson. Exhibit runs through May 3 at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser Street in Carson City. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

— "Home Means Nevada" photo exhibit debut at the Nevada Legislature. The Nevada Arts Council is unveiling a new traveling photo exhibition, “Home Means Nevada” that will start its journey in the hallways of the Nevada Legislature during the 2019 session. The exhibition features the works of 15 contemporary photographers, but which echoes famous photographs and artwork from the late 1800s and early 1900s that helped spur protections for many of our nation’s national parks. The exhibit highlights some of the unique treasures found on federally managed lands across the state, from bighorns to Burning Man, to the ancient rock art and petroglyphs in the Gold Butte area. The exhibition will be displayed in the Senate hallway of the Nevada Legislature, 401 S. Carson St. in Carson City. The Legislature’s 120-day session begins on Monday, Feb. 4.

— The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished," at the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E. Proctor Street, Carson City. Eleven artists from Carson High School have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public from January 14 to March 31, 2019, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. The artists are all students in Photography Instructor Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photo class.

— Clothing and food collection drive underway for Carson City homeless.
UPDATE: Thank you, Carson City, for all your donations to the homeless drive! Your generosity has been amazing! Because of the overwhelming response, we have a lot of items that are not needed at this time, so I am planning a clothing/rummage sale in the near future with all the proceeds going to the Do Drop In Homeless Center to help keep their doors open. If you have items to donate to the sale, please call me so I can arrange to get them from you. Please don't drop off any more donations to Grocery Outlet. Now that the holiday season is over many people forget about the great need the homeless face everyday here in Carson City. With some of the coldest weather still ahead of us lets do what we can to help those suffering from homelessness. I'm collecting items for the Do Drop In Center and the homeless of Carson City. Some of the items needed are: Warm socks, Jackets, gloves, sleeping bags, blankets, hats, camping gear, tarps, and hygiene products. We are also collecting canned goods, nutritional snacks, hot chocolate, oatmeal, individual servings of juice as well as coffee, tea and soup that can be used at the center. Volunteers and money donations to keep the Do Drop In doors open are always needed. Items will be collected now through March. — Nevada Artists Association presents New Year's Show at BAC. 10 a.m. The Nevada Artists Association presents The New Year's Show. The featured artists wall at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will also be presenting the works of Dick Carr and Reta Hanks. These shows are free and open to the public. The NAA Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the campus of the Brewery Arts Center at 449 W. King Street in Carson City. — Art exhibit 'Korea '76' featured at the Carson City Community Center's Sierra Room. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Korea ’76" with work by artists Eugene Rolfe and Gig Depio in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public now through Feb. 28, 2019. Note: the Sierra Room is closed for renovation from Jan. 18 to Feb. 6.

— Dayton High School athletic registration open for spring sports. Dayton High School Spring sports registration for baseball, softball, field and track, boys golf has begun. Registrations must be complete by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14. Current fall and winter athletes must register as well for a spring sport if they are participating. — Statewide presentations on radon safety. January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 2 through Feb. 28. Radon test kits are available at Cooperative Extension offices and partnering locations, as well as at presentations, statewide. Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless and tasteless. It comes from the ground and can accumulate in homes, raising the risk of lung cancer. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates 21,000 Americans die each year from radon-caused lung cancer, killing more people than secondhand smoke, drunk driving and house fires.For more information, call the Radon Hotline at 1-888-RADON10 (1-888-723-6610) or visit the Nevada Radon Education Program website at www.RadonNV.com. Cooperative Extension, the EPA and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health urge all Nevadans to test their homes for radon.
