She was our speech teacher in high school when I was deathly afraid of public speaking. I would rather have a coyote gnaw on my arm than to have to speak in public.

The JAG program at Pioneer High School has made positive changes since its implementation just a few years ago. The JAG program teaches life skills to students and allows them to learn skills such as public speaking, taxes, how to apply for scholarships, car loans, and of course, resumes and cover letters, among many other topics.

“Where I’m from, it’s cows, sows and plows,” she explained. “Here, it’s more than that. It’s public speaking. It’s leadership. It’s the greenhouse. It’s a lot more than ranching.”
