It’s that time of year again. The ghosts and ghouls come out of hiding and paint the town orange. Halloween isn’t just one night around here. Combined with the festivities of Nevada Day, you can be sure to enjoy at least a week’s worth of celebrating.

Here is a comprehensive list of fall festivals, Halloween parties, and fun for all. Items in italic are for those 21 and older only.

Saturday, Oct. 22:
-- Second Annual Harvest Train and Festival with Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine Rides at the Nevada State Train Museum (10am-4pm; unlimited train rides and museum admission $15 adults, $5 kids 4-17; bring non-perishable food for the FISH food bank; scarecrow art show and auction, old-fashioned pumpkin patch, artists, crafters, food trucks and more)

-- Downtown Carson City Ghost Walks: The Talking Dead Tour (90 minutes; $20) AND The Scalawag Tour (family friendly 50 minutes; $12/ $7 kids, costumes encouraged) - All tours begin behind the Firkin and Fox and leave every half hour beginning at 10am. -- Pumpkin Patch Harvest Festival with Pig Races, Hay Slide, Kiddie Land, Straw Maze, Farm Animals and more at Corley Ranch: 859 Highway 395 South, Gardnerville (11am-5pm; admission $7, Seniors $5, under 2 free; additional cost for some rides, etc.)

-- Halloween Silent Auction at Nerdvana NV: 3220 Hwy 50 E, # 2 (12pm-5pm; Free for bidders, $20 for sellers; food and drink)

-- Underwater Pumpkin Carving and night glow with the Northern Nevada Dive Club at the Patton Beach in Carnelian Bay. Bring pumpkin, plastic carving tools and a chemical light. Call (775) 825-2147 for more information. (Briefing will start at 3pm followed by the carving dive. We will also do a night dive at 6:30pm to view and photo the lighted pumpkins)

-- Carson Cruise Meet and Greet ‘Trunk or Treat’ at Advantage Auto Works: the corner of Old Hot Springs Road and Challenger Way (3pm-9:30pm, trick or treating begins at 4:30pm; everyone welcome; car entry price is a bag of candy to pass out and a bag of food for Food For Thought; prize for best Halloween-themed decorated car)

-- Frappe Fright Night: Frappuccino Tasting at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes (5pm-7pm; small entrance fee unless you are in costume; frappes half-off)
