What to do on Wednesday in the Carson City area
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Wed, 02/21/2018 - 12:19amDon’t think that you have to wait until the weekend to find something to do. Our shiny, ‘new’ library is showing ‘Hidden Figures,’ a movie about NASA during the Space Race, and the black female mathematicians behind the scenes. The Historical Society of Dayton Valley is thrilled to bring an update about their efforts to restore the 1881 Carson and Colorado Railroad Depot. Wired Wednesday is a group of film-makers, photographers, and digital artists that is responsible for the great short film contests throughout the year. They always welcome anyone interested to join their ranks.
I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Feb. 17 -18
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 02/16/2018 - 7:27pmThere is absolutely a little bit of everything this weekend. There’s somewhere to volunteer, somewhere to eat some fundraising pancakes, join in an Asian New Year Lion Dance Parade, Beer Crawl in downtown Carson City, and get your Zumba on. I think the eclectic mix of happenings is one of my favorite things about our corner of the world. Whether it’s the International Film Festival, the Vagina Monologues, or telescope viewing at the WNC Observatory: you can’t tell me there is nothing to do.

What Works: Step Up and Watch Opportunity Grow
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/16/2015 - 10:42amWhen I was in kindergarten, I was asked to play the part of the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz.” Now, anyone who knows me know would say this story ended with me accepting the part and having a great time. But, it didn’t. As a kid, I didn’t know this important life strategy. When asked to step on stage, because people see talent in you or want to give you a voice, say yes.
Column: Taxes and The Yellow Brick Road
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 12:35pmAnybody remember the lyrics to the Wizard of Oz song about the Yellow Brick Road?
“You’re off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. You’ll find he is a Whiz of a Wiz if ever a Wiz there was. If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was the Wizard of Oz is one because. Because, because, because, because, because. Because of the wonderful things he does. You’re off to see the wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

Tornado in Washoe Valley?
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Wed, 10/06/2010 - 11:00amA reader emailed that Doppler radar had picked up the signature of a tornado in Washoe Valley last night at about 7:30 p.m. Being originally from Kansas and enduring years of Wizard of Oz jokes, of course I was interested. Here is the video he sent of the radar:
