Ceremonies, holiday craft fairs and more: Carson City region set for Veterans Day weekend

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. "Murder at the Sock Hop"

Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary is presenting "Murder at the Sock Hop".

It will be presented Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St., Carson City.

The program includes buffet dinner, interactive show, no host bar, and raffles. Doors open at 4:30PM with the show starting at 5:00PM and buffet dinner at 6:00PM.

Ticket cost is $60.00 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Carson Tahoe Medical Center Gift Shop located in the hospital lobby at 1600 Medical Parkway, Carson City or on line at http://ctha.eventbrite.com.

Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s monthly dance party will be the Silver Dollar Car Classic Sock Hop, 6-10 pm July 26 at the Carson Nugget’s Grand Ballroom, 507 N. Carson St. Vintage 1950s-‘60s dance music will be played, and costumes of that era are encouraged. The fun includes dance, hula hoop, costume and limbo contests and door prizes. Cost is $5 for car show participants, $7 for members of HSSDC and Reno’s Biggest Little Swing Dance Club, $10 general for individuals and $15 for couples.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party June 28 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. At 6:30 p.m., Clay and Cullen Mitchell will teach jitterbug, a 1940s-style swing dance and simplified version of Lindy hop. Carson City car enthusiasts show and shine for cancer-stricken teen

Friday night shined in all shapes, sizes and hearts for McKenna Mitchell, a Carson City teen stricken with bone cancer. While McKenna wasn't able to attend because of chemotherapy treatments, Carson City put on a car show the 14-year-old girl would be proud of. The event was held at Kragen-O'Reilly's.

There were 66 entries in the Show and Shine, with all proceeds going to help McKenna's family with medical costs, according to organizers Holly and Kenson Seymour.

Buddy Holly Sock Hop fundraiser at Brewery Arts Center

The Buddy Holly Sock Hop upcoming at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson Ceity will bring out the Big Bopper or Peggy Sue in you The fundraising event is set for Saturday evening, April 10, featuring the music of 1950s legend Buddy Holly and contemporaries of his rock ‘n roll era.

Bob Reid and the Rave-Ons will provide live music in the Buddy Holly tradition, including such mega-hits as Rave On, That’ll Be the Day and Peggy Sue. The 7-to-10 p.m. dance will offer not only live music and era recordings, but also has on tap food and beverages from malt shop favorites down to today.
