I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Jan. 28 - 29

Kunghei fatchoy, Carson City. Let’s welcome the year of the rooster and say goodbye to January. It’s never too late to get a jump on your New Year’s resolutions and the Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair at the Carson Mall will help you do just that. The Brewery Arts Center is proud to present a new concert series featuring the local bands we love: Locals Nightclub kicks off tonight with the Whitehats and a CD release party for Hick’ry Switch. SATURDAY: Chinese New Year

Roska Entertainment is new to town and throwing some parties. Get down to the electronic sounds of CGK and Howker at Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge. If big band is more your style, then the monthly dance party with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club is for you.

Music is good for the soul and the Capital City Community Band is just what the doctor ordered. Grab the kids and head to the First Presbyterian Church for a free concert. Get in a bike ride before the wet weather returns: Muscle Powered leaves from Fremont Elementary School at 9 a.m. and also sponsors weekly hikes throughout town. If you’re interested in joining them, their potluck membership meeting this afternoon at the Brewery Arts Center is the perfect time to fill out a membership card.

SUNDAY:

• Encore Performing Arts Dance Competition in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center (8am-11am)
• Muscle Powered Weekly Bike Ride - Meet in the south parking lot of Fremont Elementary School, next to the Linear Ditch Trail (meet at 9am; consists of two loops 10-15 miles long each, this will allow a rider to do 10-15 miles or 20-30 miles; ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but usually about 12-16 mph; All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, helmet, and closed toed shoes. • The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation (FCCPR) hosts an Open House for the historic Wungnema House on the east end of Mills Park - The building is accessible by the Park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite the high school (2pm-5pm; Free)
• Muscle Powered Annual Membership Meeting and Pot Luck at the Brewery Arts (2pm-5pm; Bring your favorite dish and your own table service. BYOB, or water, sodas, and coffee provided; join or renew membership at the meeting)
• Annual ’Help The Band Play On’ Capital City Community Band Concert at the First Presbyterian Church: corner of King and Division Streets (3pm; free concert, but donations for the band greatly appreciated)
• Live Music with Tyler Stafford in the Carson Valley Inn Cabaret, Minden (6pm-10pm)
