I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: July 9-10
Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. Head to Mills Park for the First Annual Polynesian Festival in the Marv Teixeira Pavillion. Glen Eagles welcomes back the Regional Chili Cook-off this weekend; get your fill of some amazing grub and help raise funds for Honor Flight Nevada. Catch one of last few performances of Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s Aladdin, Jr. Continue reading for other great ways to spend your time.

- Seniors Swim Free at Paradise Salon and Spa: Executive Pointe off College Pkwy (7am-5pm, except during Zumba class 9am-10am; 55 and older; indoor adult warm saltwater pools)

- EAA Sierra Chapter #403 Young Eagle Flights (Weather Permitting; open to ages 8-17; registration 8am at the Airport Terminal Building, orientation 8:30am; free, Registration Forms are available at the event) Coffee and Donuts (8am-12pm, all welcome) at 2500 E. College Pkwy
- Grand Opening at Bella Vista Farm: 2685 Billy's Road, Minden (8am-3pm)
- Capital City Circles Initiative Rummage Sale at 2443 Hunt Circle (8am-2pm; no early birds)
Join your friends and neighbors at the Third and Curry Farmers Market. You'll find yummy fruits and veggies, locally made goods, and a creative outlet at the Empty Bowls painting booth.

- Empty Bowls Bowl Decorating at the Third and Curry Farmers Market (8:30am until supplies run out or 1pm)
- Silver Streak Expo with vendors, crafts, food, and more in the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center Banquet Room (9am-4pm; benefit for the Meals on Wheels Program)
- First Annual Polynesian Festival at the Marv-Texeira Pavilion in Mills Park (10am-6pm; free; presented by the Northern Nevada Hui Association featuring a variety of Polynesian Cultures with vendors providing Polynesian clothing, arts and crafts, keiki (children’s) corner, food and drinks (non-alcoholic), music and dance)
- Spirit of America Show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery in the Brewery Arts Center (10am-4pm)
- Reno Chalk Art Festival at the Atlantis Casino (10am-5pm)
- Car Wash for Dayton Dustdevils Volleyball at the S&S Market, Dayton (10am-4pm; $5 per car suggested)
- Ferris Family Speaker Series: Jim Clark presents "Trains in the Movies" at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park: 1450 Highway 88, Minden (10am-11:30am; free; bring a camp chair or blanket; no dogs)
Train lovers have a few choices today. Take the V&T up to Virginia City for day of historic fun. Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park hosts a lecture on trains in the movies. A special vintage motor car is making runs from Virginia City to Gold Hill. All aboard!

- Annual High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair to benefit Honor Flight Nevada at Glen Eagles Restaurant (11am-5pm)
- Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration at Mormon Station State Park, Genoa (11am-1pm)
- Carson City Cruise: Meet N Greet BYO BBQ – All Cars, Trucks, and Bikes Welcome at James Lee Memorial Park in Indian Hills (11am-5pm; We'll be accepting new and gently used household items, Girls Clothing 4T and 7, non-perishable Food, Hygiene products and monetary donations for the victims of the recent apartment fire in Douglas County)
- Dog Town Rescue Adoption Event at PetSmart (11am-3pm; all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped)
Looking for puppy love? Head to Petsmart for Dog Town Rescue’s Adoption Event. CASI’s annual fundraiser at Fuji Park lets you Bark, Whine, and Dine for a great cause.
- WARF Cat and Kitten Adoption Event at Petco on Topsy Lane (11am-4pm; all cats are fixed, vaccinated and micro-chipped)
- Fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada at Yogurt Beach in Carson City and Gardnerville (12pm-4pm; mention the fundraiser and they will donate 30% of all proceeds)

A new Ghostbusters is hitting the theaters, but old ghosts have been haunting our town for years. The downtown Ghost Walking Tour begins around 6:30 p.m. and shows off some of our lingering former residents.
