The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce the winning entries in the Nevada Day Chalk Art Contest held on Oct. 31. The contest was open to all Carson City residents, households and businesses. Contestants created chalk art masterpieces on their own driveways or sidewalks based on the Nevada Day theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! Nevada Humanities presents A Virtual Salon: Nevada’s Public Monuments — the next installment of its bimonthly Salon series — online at facebook.com/nevadahumanities on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 12 pm PT. This virtual conversation will feature a conversation with historians and activists on the front lines of change about monuments, markers, and the physical presence of history in Nevada.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with Starr Nixdorf, director of Paradise Salon Spa and Wellness in Carson City about the AiChi classes in their pool and the app, AbilityFix.com, available soon. The app helps users determine what type exercises to do in any pool to help people using underwater exercise in therapy to help with joint, muscle and relief pain.

Mountain Lakes Estates Retirement Living is celebrating National Dog Day all week long, Monday, Aug. 24-Friday, Aug. 28, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Reno and neighboring residents and their pups are invited to stop by the sales trailer at the 765 South Meadows Parkway Reno, NV 89521, to pick up a free homemade dog treat and enter to win a $50 gift card from Lulu's Pet Grooming. Construction of Mountain Lakes Estates Retirement Community is nearly complete, and its first residents are expected to move in this fall, said Darryl Fisher, president of Mission Senior Living. The active lifestyle community for adults 55-years-old and better is located at 765 South Meadows Parkway, Reno. Construction began in the spring of 2019.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the incident, in which a man was found dead after apparently falling through the roof at a Carson City shopping center business, is being investigated as a possible after-hours burglary and that the deceased man had been dead for some time.

According to Sheriff Furlong, workers at a hair salon came into the business to open up for the day. When they arrived they found a deceased male on the ground, who appeared to have fallen through the ceiling.

Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those who did not know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. She carried water and snacks in her car to give to the homeless and people less fortunate than her.
