Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Combined with train rides and live music, there’s plenty of excitement going on over the weekend! Read on for more information.

The free lacrosse clinic on August 29, 9 a.m. at the John L. Harvey Field located at Western Nevada College is filling up fast, so be sure to register! The High Sierra Lacrosse League and the Carson Capitols Lacrosse club are putting on this free event for boys and girls, ages 6-12.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association presents a jazz-related drive-in movie, “High Society,” on Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, as part of the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival.

The Nevada State Archives is providing a free basic preservation workshop on March 12, 2020 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The training will cover preserving documents and photos, storage methods for various types of records, as well as information about electronic records. No previous experience is required; this training is open to anyone who might be interested. The training will be held at the Nevada State Library and Archives Building, 100 N. How many students ever apply to participate in a contest, let alone actually do it and win 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th place?
