Submitted by admin on Wed, 10/28/2020 - 7:57amUPDATE: On Wednesday, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, October 29, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell, whose memorial is being held Thursday.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. He served in the marine corps as a control tower operator, graduated with two master’s in mathematics and became a principal for Las Vegas school district in 1963. Ron was involved in copious organizations and groups such as the Disabled Veterans of America, Marine Corps League, and American Legion member where he tirelessly advocated for veterans.

Chili competitors at Carson City cook-off raise their game to benefit veterans

But chili flavors stole the show, which raises money to send veterans back East to Washington, D.C., on an all-expenses-paid trip that also pays tribute to their military service.
