Person of interest in Lake Tahoe casino homicide in custody
Authorities say a person of interest in the Oct. 3 homicide at Hard Rock Casino at Lake Tahoe in Stateline was arrested in Sparks last week, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Jose DeJesus Rodiguez-Quezada was contacted Wednesday, Nov. 22 by University of Nevada Reno Police Department after being reported as a suspicious person who was sleeping on a sidewalk near the UNR Agricultural Ranch area on East McCarran Boulevard.
UNR Police determined Rodriguez-Quezada, a previously deported ex-felon, to be in possession of a concealed weapon.
Rodriguez was arrested on local charges of ex-felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and obstructing a public officer.
Rodriguez-Quesada was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from the State of Washington and a hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed on him.
The investigation of the homicide of Kevin Leroy Edwards of Dublin, Calif., that occurred on Oct. 3, 2017 is still ongoing.
It was believed Rodriquez-Quezada had recently been traveling the northern Nevada area, specifically the Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Lyon County areas and was known to frequent areas surrounding homeless shelters, trucks stops. On Oct. 23, Douglas County authorities released his identity and named him as a person of interest.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office expresses their appreciation to the public, who took action and called in a suspicious person, the University of Nevada Reno Police Department, the United States Marshals Office and United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for their assistance with this investigation.
