I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: July 7 – 8
Time to get July off to a fun start. The downtown Wine Walk is a great way to spend the day exploring new shops, galleries, and restaurants. If you’re feeling competitive, head down to the Carson Mall for their watermelon and hot dog eating contests. The summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center continue with a singer/songwriter showcase.
SATURDAY:
- — Sierra Chef Farmers Market at Genoa Town Park, on Nixon in Genoa (8am-1pm; An assortment of fresh produce, herbs, eggs and more, crafts, and local food items and specialties)
- — Dayton Pigs Desert Cleanup – Meet on Enterprise Way by Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley in Dayton (8am-10am; From there, we bounce down the dirt trails by the transfer station, on our way to the illegal dump site; Bring a truck/trailer, work gloves, and water - First aid kit, eye protection, dust mask, rake, and shovel recommended, and don't wear your favorite shoes; Trash cans, extra trash bags, and shovels are always welcome - If you bring an empty trailer and get it loaded, we'll cover the dump fees; Dayton Pigs is a community effort to rid our beautiful wild spaces of trash left behind from out-of-control illegal dumping)
- — Third and Curry Farmers Market (8:30am to 1pm; fruits, vegetables, flowers, local vendors, live music, the Muscle Powered Bike Valet and more)
- — Edwards Motor Car Rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (Museum open 9am-4:30pm, admission for adults is $6, children under 18 are free; Motor Car Rides available from 10am-4pm and last approximately 35 minutes – Fares are $4 for ages 12 and over; $2 for museum members and ages 4-11, and free for ages 3 and under - Motor car No. 401 was built by the Edwards Motor Car Co. of Sanford, NC and put into service October 1926 by the Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend Railroad of Ajo, AZ. The motor car operated regularly until December 31, 1947)

(Families for Effective Autism Treatment) in the back room at Comma Coffee (NEW TIME: 9:30am-11am; F.E.A.T. or 'Families for Effective Autism Treatment' is a group of parents who formed an organization in the Carson Valley for support and advocacy to help families with children who have received the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder; open to anyone who loves someone with autism)

Carson Valley has a few fun options today. You can enjoy the return of their ‘Wine and Art on the Green’ in front of the Museum and Cultural Center and see what local artists are up to. Families might want to enjoy a movie at the Library: Tarzan plays at 2 p.m. and the popcorn is free.

- — History Talk: The California Trail Through Nevada at Mormon Station State Historic Park, Genoa (12:30pm; free, all ages; Join park staff for a history talk focused on the California Trail through Nevada. For many emigrants that braved the California Trail in the mid-1800’s, the segment through Nevada was the most hated and feared portion of the entire journey)
- — Rain or Shine: the Downtown Business Association's monthly Wine Walk: sign up at The Carson Nugget, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Touched By Angels, Purple Avocado, Cactus Jacks Casino, The Brewery Arts Center, or Comma Coffee (1pm-5pm, raffle at 5pm sharp in the Carson Nugget Alatte Coffee and Wine Bar; $15 includes an official wine walk glass or $10 with the official wine walk glass from a previous walk)

Athena McIntyre deserves to be on a stage. The local songstress is taking a break from touring to take part in the Levitt Amp Concert Series at the Brewery Arts Center. Always a great time, the free weekly concerts are a great way to celebrate community.

Take it easy; after several crazy days of activity, things finally slow down a little. Join our local hiking and biking group, Muscle Powered, for an early morning ride to get your blood pumping and to see the city in summer bloom. Locals will want to take advantage of the Diesel Train headed to Virginia City. It’s the same route as the V&T Steam Engine, but not as pricey. Pack a picnic and head to Genoa Park. Once a month the town hosts a free community concert, but you’ll need your own chair.
SUNDAY:
- — Muscle Powered Weekly Bike Ride - Meet in the south parking lot of Fremont Elementary School, next to the Linear Ditch Trail (meet at 8am; ride consists of two loops 10-15 miles long each, this will allow a rider to do 10-15 miles or 20-30 miles; Riders usually split up into two groups (tortoises and hares) and each do 10-15 mile loops; All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, helmet, and closed toed shoes.
