Happenings around Carson City for Tuesday, Feb. 25

Heading into Tuesday, activities and events lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a regular meeting of the Carson City School Board, the Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show at its Brewery Arts Center gallery, Carson Victory Rollers present a new skater program, plus classes at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

Carson City School Board to discuss program updates at upcoming meeting

The next Carson City School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The docket for discussion includes program updates, introductions of the new Nevada Association of School Boards director, audits and more.

Senator Square: Carson High School athletes excel across the board

Everyone in Carson City is invited, always invited, to come on out and support the CHS athletic teams and programs, especially when so many of these individuals and teams have been so successful. A great many athletic events are happening this week and beyond with regional competitions in soccer, and state competitions in tennis and cross country.

Senator Square: Club opportunities everywhere at Carson High School

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Carson High School robotics team wins state championship

CARSON CITY — Putting an exclamation point on the best season yet, the Carson High School robotics team, Cyber Mafia, was crowned state champions at the Nevada State FIRST Tech Challenge Championship held in Las Vegas Saturday, Feb. 9.

LEGO League program honors two Carson High School students

CARSON CITY — First LEGO League held its Northern Nevada Championship at the University of Nevada, Reno Saturday, Jan. 26, and two Carson High School students were honored for their service to the program.

Senator Square: Speech and Debate Tournament a success at Carson High School

CHS hosted the Northern Nevada Forensic League tournament last weekend.

According to CHS teacher and Speech and Debate Adviser Patrick Mobley, “We would like to thank all the judges and coaches who volunteered their time to help this tournament become a success.”

Senator Square: Winterfest 2019 begins at Carson High School

No high school on the planet has as many events regularly happening as that of Carson High School, and one of the biggest of the year, Winterfest, begins Feb. 1. This year, Leadership class has determined the theme will be Winterflix, a play on the popular Netflix streaming service that allows customers to watch a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices.

In an effort to address social and emotional needs of students, CHS is presenting the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program.

Freshman health classes were the first reached in February. The JROTC students and health science classes are next.

Local robotics team wins state, advances to regional championships

A first-year robotics team made up of youth from Carson City and Reno has been crowned state champions following its victory at FIRST Robotics Tech Challenge Nevada State Championships held in Reno.

Carson High School Robotics Team Returns from World Championship

CARSON CITY — Team Captain, the Carson High School robotics team, has returned from an intense four-day competition at the FIRST World Championship. Held April 19–22 in Houston, Texas, the competition brings together the best robotics teams from around the country and around the world.

Senator Square: New Star Wars club at Carson High School

Just when things could not get any better, the Star Wars Club, initiated by CHS students, hit light speed at CHS. To date, CHS Advisor, physics, astronomy, heliophysics coordinator, and head freshman football coach Jim Bean said the club has had two meetings so far.

Carson High School Robotics Team presents Robotics Night

Fritsch Elementary School on Wednesday 6:30–8:00 p.m. The team is preparing to attend the World Championship in Houston, TX on April 19-22 where they will compete against 127 other FIRST Tech Challenge teams from 39 countries.

The support received from the community of Carson City is enough to make people from all over the country want to relocate. Former students know there are no special funds available for high school clubs to organize a prom or enjoy interscholastic competition.

Want to be a lawyer for a day? At CHS, with Mock Trial, it is possible. Mock Trial is Law and Order set in a simulated trial environment in a real courthouse with a real judge. The Carson High School Mock Trial team will meet professional attorneys and students around the state to compete Feb. 17 in Reno.

WNC fosters technology leaders of tomorrow through robotics events

What’s next? We already have Megatron, R2-D2, Optimus Prime and Rosie. On back-to-back days at Western Nevada College, students immersed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education showed what they could do when their minds were stimulated through technology and robotics.

Carson City Airport Announces 2015 Open House Event

With hopes of generating enthusiasm among young people and using themes of robotics, aviation and aerospace to do it, Carson City Airport's annual open house returns to the skies above the capital city on Saturday, June 20, after a year hiatus.

More than 6,000 visitors attended the event in 2013. This year’s open house, which runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., is free to the public. Activities will feature interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, robotics demonstrations, food and beverages, bounce house and many more family activities.

Robots will rock 'em, sock 'em Saturday in Carson City

A robot version of a smackdown will be held Saturday in Carson City during the 2014 Northern Nevada FIRST Tech Challenge.

Teams of high school and middle school students will compete using robots they have designed to complete various maneuvers at the Donald Reynolds Technology Center on the campus of Western Nevada Community College, 2201 West College Parkway.

Students win big at Northern Nevada FIRST TECH Challenge Robotics Championship

The FIRST NV organization, organized the Second Annual Northern Nevada FIRST TECH Challenge was held Saturday at Carson High School in Carson City. High school teams from Nevada, California, Oregon, and Utah competed in a full day robotics competition for two seeds to the World Festival Robotics Competition to be held in April.

Carson City teams earn high honors in Nevada First LEGO League Robotics tournament

Several Carson City school teams received high honor while competing in the third Northern Nevada First LEGO League tournament in Sparks this weekend, including a Judge's Award for the "Salon" team of Carson Middle School and the Project Presentation Awarded to the "Junior Geek Squad' of Eagle Valley Middle School.
