Sunday, Sept. 4 Labor Day weekend: Things to do around Carson City
Ribs and cantaloupes are on the menu today if you want to head out to Sparks or Fallon, respectively. Stay local and let the Elks Club serve you up some pancakes at their monthly breakfast. Genoa offers up a fun afternoon with friends: Sweet Sippin Sunday begins at 1 p.m. The Summer Concert Series at the Nugget offers up a tribute to Tom Petty and Bob Seger with Double Trouble. Continue on for even more weekend fun.

Head up the hill and back in time. The Civil War Days in Virginia City rage on, but don’t race through Silver City. The friendly little community is hosting their annual rummage sale and bbq in the Town Park; you never know who you’ll see strumming a guitar on their brand new stage.

Fireworks aren’t just for Independence Day. South Tahoe lights up the sky tonight with their annual spectacular. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30pm. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

The long weekend lets us hold onto summer a little bit longer. Enjoy an interfaith community picnic on the lawn at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Bring something to share, your plates and utensils, and something for the F.I.S.H. food drive. Watch out for playa dust.
