Breaking Ground is a photo-phonic mediation on the tale of dreams, sought and abandoned, that wends its way through the American psyche and landscape.

Trump Administration OKs $344,000 Rural Utilities Service Loan for Virginia City

American Flat remembered at Saturday film, photo show and lecture

The event includes three parts – a screening of a new documentary that covers the history of the American Flat mill from its inception in the 1920s to its demolition in 2014; a short lecture about the unique qualities of the mill by consulting architectural historian and industrial archaeologist Ron Reno, PhD; and a pop-up show with locals’ rare photos of the site.

There's a 5K Remembrance Run in Carson City, a rib cook-off in Sparks, a farm-to-fork festival culinary festival and fireworks at South Lake Tahoe, the Cantaloupe Festival in Fallon, the Comstock Community Rummage Sale in Silver City and the Great Civil War Days Camp at Virginia City.

- IHOP 5K Remembrance Run and Walk: free, informal, untimed five-kilometer run/walk is set to start in the parking lot at the Carson City IHOP: 3883 S. Comstock museum in Virginia City presents collection of western art by Craig Sheppard

A native of southwestern Oklahoma and former bronco rider in Madison Square Garden, Sheppard was a prime mover in northern Nevada’s cultural community in the years following World War II.
Comstock History Center Museum Opens New Historic Mining Photo Exhibit
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/23/2015 - 12:34pmThe Comstock History Center Museum in Virginia City presents a new historic photo exhibit entitled, Vanishing Icons: A Look Back at Comstock Mines and Mills.
In 1980, a documentation project was undertaken on the Comstock to record the remains of historic mine and mill sites originally built throughout Virginia City, Gold Hill, Silver City and Dayton during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The exhibit features 16 large-format, black and white photographs from this project.

In characterizing critics of the painting as “this handful of local residents,” she echoes a favorite tactic of Corrado de Gasperis, Comstock Mining’s CEO who frequently diminishes the legitimate concerns of residents by portraying CMI critics as “a few disgruntled residents” or the like.

Born and raised in Carson City, I spent much of my youth on the Comstock. I focused much of my studies on Nevada and western history obtaining my undergraduate degree in history from the University of Nevada, Reno.
I was honored when asked to serve on the Foundation’s board and it has been incredibly rewarding to work with the Foundation during this exciting time for the Comstock Historic District.

Brian Sandoval, senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller, Congressman Mark Amodei and Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. The event benefits The Boys & Girls Club of Nevada.
Tickets are $60 per person, or a reserved table for 10 is just $500. Doors open at 6 p.m. The evening also includes table service dinner, silent and live auctions, and a Nevada 150 birthday cake and cake cutting ceremony.
Dayton artist unveils painting of living Nevada governors and elected officials
Submitted by editor on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 1:25pmRenowned Dayton artist, Steven Saylor, has completed his painting “Nine Cheers for the Silver State,” featuring current governor Brian Sandoval, the two U.S. Senators from Nevada, and Mark Amodei, who represents the Northern Nevada congressional district.
The painting celebrates the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and will raise funds for the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and promotion of the Comstock Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.
