Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s caucus day, are you ready to vote if you are so inclined? Here are some events to do after/instead throughout the Carson City region!

Nevada Caucus Locations in Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County. Check ins for all locations begin at 10 a.m. Caucuses will be called to order at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 marks the Nevada democratic caucus. The Nevada State Democratic Party listed voting locations around Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County.

Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 701 Old Clear Creek Rd. in Carson City. Come on down to market at Fuji Park in Carson City and find some great treasures, lots of vendors to choose from. There is jewelry, arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles and so much more.

Cottonwood wrapping volunteer event with Carson City Parks. 10 a.m. Please park at Morgan Mill River Access off Morgan Mill Road, we will be walking 1 mile down Empire Ranch Trail. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is having a Cottonwood Wrapping volunteer event! We will be installing mesh wire around the base of Cottonwood trees to protect them from being damaged by beavers.

Guided snowshoe hikes with a ranger on the Carson Ranger District. 10 a.m. at Tahoe Meadows, one mile southwest of the summit of Nevada State Route 431 Mt. Rose Highway. The Carson Ranger District on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is pleased to announce the return of the popular Forest Ranger-led snowshoe walks. The walks begin this Saturday, Jan. 25, and will be offered every Saturday through March 28.

Family Reading Program at the Carson City Library. 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Through a partnership with the Northern Nevada Literacy Council (NNLC), the Carson City Library helps families read and learn together. This program enables parents to improve their children's literacy skills and model positive family literacy behaviors at home. Each family registered will receive a free book. Each child will get to participate in an art or science activity.

Father-Daughter Day and Dance in Virginia City. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fathers – take your daughters on a historic journey back in time to Virginia City. Don your finery and dress your daughters like Victorian princesses for a Father-Daughter Day & Dance unlike any other. More than just a dance, all-inclusive ticket-holders enjoy a day chock-full of fun both dads and daughters will enjoy, from delicious, hand-made fudge to old-time photos and more. The day is designed to create an unforgettable experience for dads and daughters, ending with a charming dance at the historic Piper’s Opera House, a perfect location for lasting memories.

Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for six weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.

Mustang Mardi Gras at the Nevada Governor's Mansion. 4 to 7 p.m. Join Patricia Ackerman in supporting the Wild Horse Preservation League by attending the Mustang Mardi Gras at the Nevada Governor's Mansion! Enjoy the live music and delicious creole and cajun food, all while supporting a great cause. $25 per person.

Book Signing at Gold Hill Hotel. 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1540 Main St. in Gold Hill, Nev. Nevada Author, Sandie La Nae, and Nevada Historian, Arline La Ferry, will be selling their newest book "Nevada's Oldest Hotel Gold Hill Hotel" at the Gold Hill Hotel on Saturday Feb. 22, 2020. Books can be purchased and autographed by Sandie and Arline.

Hilarious comedy and mystery dinner theater comes to Carson City. 5:45 p.m. at the Gold Dust West Hotel, 2171 E. William St. Move over — or roll over — Agatha Christie, Lollipop Productions is about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs old-fashioned whodunits, the medical profession, “female problems,” and theater folks!

Dinner and Wine Tasting Series at Genoa Town Hall. 6 to 9 p.m. at 2287 Main St. in Genoa. Come and enjoy a tasty dinner with wine at the Genoa Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 22. Gift certificates are available as well as private classes!

The Brewery Arts Center debuts female version of 'The Odd Couple' in Carson City. 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. Carson City’s theater company, Proscenium Players Inc., is bringing the female version of The Odd Couple to the BAC’s Black Box Theater from February 14-23 for two weekend’s worth of performances.

Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd, Carson City in the south parking lot, next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building.

Eddy Street Vintage Market Pop-Up in Gardnerville. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1235 Eddy St. Eddy Street Vintage Market started on a whim! Meant to be open for one weekend.. ever…one and done. What happened was nothing short of miraculous. A snowball in the middle of summer. What transpired was an amazing event once per month that combines family, friends and a love of antiques, vintage and repurposed goods.

Carson City Symphony to feature 'LantinXpressions' concert Sunday at community center. 4 p.m. at 851 E. William St. Tickets are $18 general admission; $15 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for youth age 18 and under. Tickets are on sale at the Nevada Day Office, 716 N. World Dance Open Floor Sierra Region. 4 p.m. at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, 1500 Old Hot Springs Rd in Carson City. The next World Dance Open Floor is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23 at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. We will be donating all raffles and tips to charities and firefighting efforts. Carson City Historical Society hosts local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff, who will present a Chautauqua on "Snowshoe Thompson: Superhero of the Sierra" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11 in the Carriage House behind the Foreman-Roberts Historic House located at 1207 Carson Street, Carson City, during Mark Twain Days.

On the morning of Saturday, May 11, volunteers will fan out across the Truckee River watershed to collect and test water samples from creeks, streams, smaller lakes, and Lake Tahoe itself to take a “snapshot” of water quality at a single moment in time for this important source of drinking water and outdoor recreation.

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will hold a special meeting May 20 that will include the final adoption of the County Budget Fiscal Year 2024-25.

A 44-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of unlawful occupancy of real property and violation of a suspended sentence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. The man was occupying the home of a deceased person without permission.

The Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery in Carson City presents the "Just the Right Size" show with 130 entries by 31 local Nevada artists.

UPDATE 3:11 PM: The fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive was contained to the garage and was knocked down quickly, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire did not extend to the main structure. No one was home and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Monday morning to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive.

For years, advocates have called upon presidential administrations to reclassify marijuana or deschedule it entirely from the DEA’s list of controlled substances.

Firefighters in Yerington and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office are on scene Monday morning of a semi truck rollover on Aiazzi Lane and Miller Road in Yerington. The entire area is closed to all traffic.

You will find something of interest or my name’s not Mark Twain, or used to be anyways. And this year Virginia City is joining in on the fun along with Carson City. Wow!

Nevada Division of Forestry state nursery is open for business beginning Thursday, May 9. When we first bought our home in 1988 with its 2.5 acres, there were some poplars, pines, blue spruce, willows, and grass, but little else. I soon discovered the state nursery and filled the yard with flowering shrubs and other plants. I added lilacs, sand cherries, golden and Nevada currants, sumacs, Apache plumes, and incense cedars.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested a Dayton man Saturday for possession of child pornography. During the investigation, officers also learned the man was a local little league coach.

Mrs. Carson City America, Kassandra Tapia, is set to grace the stage of the Mrs. Nevada America Pageant, scheduled to take place on June 9, 2024, in Las Vegas. As part of Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday celebration, the Smokey Reading Challenge is underway. Launched this morning at the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records in Carson City, the program is designed to engage children across Nevada in an exciting reading journey to learn about wildfire prevention, forests, and careers in natural resources with Smokey Bear.

The Nevada Jeep Club held their first Washoe Valley Cleanup on Saturday, May 4 and collected more than 450 pounds of trash along Highway 395.

The Carson City Leisure Hour Club members continue celebrating the organization’s 127th year with a presentation on the upcoming Jazz and Beyond festival.

At the club’s dinner meeting on Thursday, May 16, Cherie Shipley, a member of the event planning committee, will talk about the annual Jazz and Beyond festival, how it formed, and the impact it has had on the community. Jazz and Beyond is scheduled for August 16 to August 25, 2024.
