School board trustee to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michael Walker, who has held the District 5 seat on the Carson City School Board for the past eight years. He was named board president in 2020, and in 2024 became board clerk. He has served on several committees, and as a Director on the Nevada Association of School Boards.

Carson Middle School’s administration has created a twist to Teacher Appreciation Week. The weeklong celebration of teachers, held May 2-9, usually comes with a letter of appreciation and perhaps a small gift.

Two Carson City teachers earn National Board Certification

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The teachers to be recognized earning certification are Patricia Ababio, Graphic Arts teacher in the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High School, and Rhonda Holloway, English teacher at Carson Middle School.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Carson City Schools Foundation awards various grants to support students and educators

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

COVID-19 Tuesday update: second Lyon County death in two days, 26 new cases, 33 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 of an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad County region. The individual was a male Lyon County resident in his 80’s. CCHHS is also reporting 26 new cases and 33 additional recoveries in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,646, with 1,444 recoveries and 21 deaths; 181 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad area COVID-19 Monday update: 1 death, 17 new cases and 14 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a male Lyon County resident in his 40’s with underlying conditions.

Carson City Health and Human Service reports Sunday, Oct. 18, 20202 that there are 6 new cases and 11 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,603, with 1,400 recoveries and 19 deaths, 184 cases remain active.

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting 13 new cases and 14 additional recoveries in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,576, with 1,378 recoveries and 19 deaths; 179 cases remain active.

COVID testing Tuesday in Yerington following high number of positive tests at assisted living facility

Lyon County, City of Yerington, Carson City Health and Human Services and the Quad County Health Care Coalition will hold a COVID testing operation on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.. The testing will be at the new City Hall (Old National Guard Building) located on the corner of Main Street and East Goldfield Avenue.

High Volume of Positive Covid-19 reported at assisted living facility in Yerington

Lyon County officials have been notified that an assisted living facility, Mason Valley Residence, in Yerington had a high number of positive tests for COVID-19.

It is reported that 34 out of 53 tests results were positive.

First-day jitters are not just for students. The Carson City School District was pleased to announce the appointment of seven new principals and district administrators (alphabetically by school) for the 2020-2021 school year at its school board meeting Tuesday evening.

The Brewery Arts Center’s Flatbed Concert Series presents Carolyn Dolan & Big Red in West Carson City

The Brewery Arts Center will deliver live music directly to the citizens of Carson City while practicing social distancing once again this week.

Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, the BAC will place musicians and bands on the flatbed and drive them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City throughout June and July and August.

Carson City's Eagle Valley, Carson Middle School host 8th grade graduation ceremonies

Eagle Valley Middle School hosted a drive-through eighth-grade promotion ceremony Thursday afternoon from 12 to 1 p.m. Students and families were able to drive with their families, see their teachers along the procession route and enjoy the conclusion of a unforgettable school year. Promotion certificates will be mailed with report cards.

Carson High School Cross Country seniors run 20.20 mile relay

CARSON CITY — Saturday morning five seniors from Carson High School’s Cross Country team celebrated the end of the school year and their sports seasons with a 20.20 mile touch-less relay run. They began on the westside of Carson, ran up through Lakeview to loop around Franktown Road and finished at Bower’s Mansion State Park.

Carson City School Board to discuss nutrition services, budgets and more Tuesday

Items on the agenda include the approval of a Nutrition Services Food Service Management Consultant, a revision to the Capital Improvement Plan, the final budget and more.

Carson High School Announces Graduation Ceremony Plan for Class of 2020

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Carson High School’s graduation ceremony plan for the Class of 2020.

Carson High School will hold a drive-through ceremony Saturday, June 6, with varying times throughout the day where graduating seniors and their families will stay in their single vehicle until it's time for the graduate to exit their car, have their name announced on the loudspeaker as they walk across a stage erected on the northwest lawn (near the blue and white concrete ‘CHS’ sign), collect their diploma, have their picture taken, return to their vehicle and then proceed to the exit.

Carson City Middle School recognized as Distinguished STEM School

Carson Middle School has been recognized as a Distinguished School for performing an exemplary Project Lead The Way program. Only 176 schools across the country received the top honors for their commitment to student engagement and access.

Carson City Schools provides registration information for 5th-graders promoting to 6th grade
